Adam Lippes Dresses and Tops

Adam Lippes Dresses and Tops

Adam Lippes grew up in Buffalo, New York, worked at Polo Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta, and launched his own cotton basics label in 2004. He bought back the rights to his name in 2012 and introduced the Adam Lippes collection in 2014, built around easy luxury in silk, cashmere and crisp cotton. This edit follows that point of view through tops, dresses, skirts and trousers.

Collage of runway looks, campaign shots and street style outfits that capture the Adam Lippes mood

Tops

What I like about Lippes is that he learned the business inside two American houses before putting his own name on anything. You can see the training in the tops here, from brushed cashmere camis to silk charmeuse, which are polished without trying to be precious.

Dresses

Floral jacquard, satin-back crepe and silk plisse are the kind of fabrics you notice up close more than from across a room. These are the dresses I would wear to dinners where nobody wants to look like they tried too hard.

Skirts and trousers

Crepon pants, charmeuse skirts and cotton fil coupe pieces round out the group. Lippes bought his name back in 2012 so he could do things his own way, and this is the easy, quiet-luxury way he chose.

Dresses, skirts and knits

Floral jacquard, silk charmeuse, mulberry silk knit and cashmere keep the label's polish going through the dresses, skirts and layers here. Everything is easy to wear on an ordinary Tuesday.

Where I would start

If you are new to the label, begin with a cashmere top and a charmeuse skirt, because they show the whole idea in two pieces. Everything else in this edit is a variation on that same polish.

If you want to keep going, Lisa Says Gah Dresses and Tops and PH5 Knit Tops & Dresses pair well with this edit.
