ASTR the Label is a Los Angeles label of romantic dresses and tops for invitations that ask for a little more polish. I like it for pieces that feel dressed up without feeling like a costume.

ASTR the Label Dresses: Sizing, Fit and Best Buys
A Los Angeles label with a romantic point of view
I always have the same small problem: the invitation asks for polish, and I still want to feel like myself. ASTR the Label is a Los Angeles answer to exactly that. It dates to 2012, and the story is a female-led design collective making clothes with a feminine, romantic point of view. Erica K. and Daniel Kim are the co-founders, and the label's About page puts its home in Los Angeles.
What I like is that the dresses are only one chapter. Tops, skirts, jackets and knits widen the story, so the label reads as a wardrobe rather than a one-note party uniform. Brides even named the Gaia Dress its Best Midi pick in a black bridal-party dress roundup in 2022. Romantic prints and occasion-minded dressing: that is the thread I see through everything here. I went deeper on a related idea in Runaway The Label Dresses: Best Buys Right Now. I went deeper on a related idea in Anna October Dresses: The Best Buys Right Now.

Dresses for the invitations worth keeping
The romantic side shows up fastest in the dresses. The Revery Dress and Quinn Dress go into cream-and-pink and plum florals, and the Cora Sweater Dress is the quieter taupe one for days when I want a softer mood. The Journee Dress and Megan Dress keep the print going in chocolate and mauve, and the Off Shoulder Poplin Dress is the black one.
Picture her arriving at a fall dinner in the Ilaria Dress, with a simple coat for the walk home. I would let a printed dress do the color work and keep the accessories calm, especially when the print already holds several shades.

Tops that set the tone
The tops make the label easier to wear outside a dress code. The Vanessa Top in mulberry and Islah Top in pink floral put color close to the face, while the Baylin Top in white is a clean place to start. The Maelie Bodysuit is the close-fitting one to wear with a skirt, and the Kai Sweater Tube Top brings in some knit texture.
For a dinner where I want a little color without a full print, I would try the Milani Top with a plain bottom. My rule: let one piece carry the interest, then repeat a single color somewhere else in the outfit.

Skirts with a little personality
The skirts are a nice change of pace. The Blossom Skirt in black is the simplest anchor, and the Genever Skirt and Madeleine Skirt keep things light in white. The Toini Skort adds brown plaid for days when I want a pattern but not a whole printed dress.
I would pair the plaid with a quiet knit, or use a white skirt to break up a darker top. What I would skip is building anything complicated. One color or print is plenty, with an easy shoe and a small bag.

Layers that make the outfit
For the cooler side of ASTR, the Cooper Jacket is the brown plaid focal point and the Kamrath Jacket stays in a quieter brown. The Rylan Jacket brings in navy, and the Iris Sweater ties brown and navy together in a stripe.
I would throw the Cooper Jacket over a simple dress and leave everything else plain, or let the Iris Sweater do the color pairing over a solid skirt. A good layer can take one dress from a late lunch into an evening plan, which loosens the label from any single occasion.

The appeal of a small occasion
What stays with me about ASTR is the balance: a romantic point of view, and clothes that can meet an actual invitation. The dresses are the obvious way in, but the tops, skirts and knits give the story room to move into daytime. I would choose the piece with the clearest color or print and keep the rest of the look quiet. Although I suspect the plaid jacket would end up coming along to every event.
