Base Layer Tanks

Base Layer Tanks

Tanks made for layering, from plain ribbed scoops to halters and lace trimmed camis. This edit is for building outfits from a solid base.

A good base layer tank is the piece I reach for before I decide anything else about an outfit. It sits under a blazer, a cardigan or an open shirt and quietly does the work. I like the Geel bateau top in brown for a clean neckline under a jacket, and the Reformation Ryland in white when I want a plain rib that shows nothing through. I went deeper on a related idea in Base Layer. I went deeper on a related idea in Ski Outfit: Dressing for the Mountain, From Shell to Base Layer.

For days I want something with more shape, the La Ligne double layer scoop tank gives a built in second layer, and the J.Crew rib scoopneck is the one I wear under everything. The Uncle Studios muscle tank is looser and works with big jeans. When it is warm enough to wear a tank on its own, SKIMS makes a soft halter that I pair with a long skirt.
