Base Layers for Cold Days: Henleys, Turtlenecks and Cashmere

Base layers for cold days are thin henleys, knit tops, turtlenecks and cashmere that keep you warm without adding bulk. I gathered the thinnest options so layering stays easy.

A base layer is the thing you put on first and never think about again, so it has to feel good on your skin and sit flat under everything else. I like to start with something thin and close to the body. The Skims sheer modal henley is thin enough to disappear under a blazer, and the Skims cotton lace bralette sits underneath without a single line.

For the colder days I add knit. Adanola's rib merino hooded top is the one I reach for when I need real warmth, and SIMKHAI's Orlienne turtleneck looks great with wide trousers. Susana Monaco's oversized turtleneck and Sablyn's cashmere crew feel almost like a blanket, and the Reformation knit tops are easy to wear under a coat all day. Lioness has a soft V neck that works the same way. I went deeper on a related idea in Best Sweaters: Knit, Ribbed and Hooded Layers for Colder Days.
