Bold Earrings for Fall, and How to Wear Them

Bold Earrings for Fall, and How to Wear Them

Big earrings are back in rotation, and the small huggie is taking a break. These groups cover sculptural gold, dramatic drops, pearls and stones, and statement hoops, with the clothes that let them stand out. Keep the neckline simple and the earrings do the rest.

Go Bigger Than Usual

Celine's fall 2026 collection, designed by Michael Rider, opened with a look that made a strong case for big earrings, and the idea has spread well beyond the runway. Swapping tiny huggies for something closer to a clip-on makes an old outfit look new. Jennifer Behr's blue crystal Diana earrings, Saint Laurent's enamel Bo Coeur hearts, Completedworks' black agate drops and Oscar de la Renta's gold Butterfly earrings are good first picks.

Sculptural Gold

Gold with a strong shape looks best with tailoring. Gucci's Horsebit earrings and Lié Studio's Magda earrings are both substantial enough to be seen from across a room, and they sit well against Toteme's black wool-blend blazer and Skall's white broderie anglaise shirt.

Drops and Chandeliers

A long drop wants bare shoulders or a high neck, nothing in between. Zimmermann's green malachite Botanica Dangles and Lizzie Fortunato's brown enamel Toro earrings both move when you do, and Zimmermann's cream ruffled halterneck maxi dress gives them room. Judith Leiber Couture's Watermelon Slice clutch keeps the mood light.

Pearls and Stones

Pearls get more interesting when they are paired with something unexpected. Mizuki's gold pearl hoops and Paola Sighinolfi's malachite Sasa earrings sit well with Isabel Marant's ecru bouclé cardigan, and Erdem's white floral poplin midi skirt keeps the whole look soft.

Hoops and Clip-Ons

A hoop is the easiest big earring to wear every day. Lizzie Fortunato's orange Tangerine resin hoops add colour, By Pariah's gold Sculptural earrings are quieter, and both work with Khaite's brown Vinci turtleneck and The Row's black corduroy Adler pants.

Our honest take

Statement earrings are one of the few accessories that change how an outfit looks without changing the outfit itself. If you take one thing away, let it be that the neckline decides the earring: a turtleneck or a crew neck can carry almost anything, while a busy collar will fight a big drop. We would skip wearing a statement necklace at the same time, since the two compete for the same space. If you have never worn anything bigger than a stud, try a gold hoop first and work up from there. Clip-ons are worth a look if your ears are not pierced, and many of the boldest styles are lighter than they appear.
