BORNTOSTANDOUT is a Seoul fragrance house with white porcelain-inspired bottles and crimson details, and names that refuse to whisper. I like it because every scent starts from a story instead of a sales brief.

BORNTOSTANDOUT Perfume: The Scents to Know
Seoul, bottled without the rules
I will admit I picked this brand up for the names. Dirty Rice and Fig Porn are not what you expect from a perfume house, and then I found out who is behind them. Jun Lim worked in investment banking, left the job in 2021 and sold much of his art collection to start a fragrance label that could push against safe, imported luxury. It launched in Seoul in April 2022, with white bottles shaped by Korean porcelain and stamped in crimson. If you want to keep going, Abel Perfume: Which Scents Are Worth It? is the one I would read next.
What I love is how personal it stays. Lim says every scent begins with a story, from heartbreak to quiet mornings, and originality is the first question, not the forecast. His founder letter makes the case that fragrance is a way to claim identity when the world asks you to fit a mold. Scale matters to him only as a way to introduce more people to niche perfumery. I like the tension: porcelain on the shelf, red-blooded names, and scents that ask for curiosity before they earn a spot on your dresser. I went deeper on a related idea in Le Monde Gourmand Perfume: Scents to Know.

A scent ritual with a rebellious streak
I would start small, with the Extrait Extreme Discovery Kit, and let Oud Candy Extrait Extreme or Dirty Milk Eau De Parfum earn a place in the rotation. Oud Candy goes from brown sugar and milk toward smoky oud and saffron, while Dirty Milk sets creamy caramel against black pepper and warm musk. Both take a familiar sweet note and make it slightly unruly.
Then the scent can spill into the day. Drunk Lovers Hand Cream and Sugar Addict 350ml Hand & Body Wash bring it to your skin, and Sugar Addict Korean Incense and Drunk Lovers Korean Incense change the mood of a room. Dirty Heaven Eau De Parfum is the one I would sniff next. What I would skip: buying a full bottle before you have lived with the kit for a week.

The pleasure of a scent with a point of view
What I like most is that BORNTOSTANDOUT shows its Korean roots without turning them into an accessory. The porcelain is in the shape of the bottle, Seoul is in the story, and each brief still comes from one person's memories and taste. The idea was there before any growth: make the perfume you wish existed, even if it unsettles somebody. I would pair the Drunk Lovers 350ml Hand & Body Cream with a Filthy Musk 350ml Hand & Body Cream on the same shelf and see which one I reach for first. Although I suspect the incense wins.
