Broken Plaid

Broken Plaid

Oversized, blurred and mixed-up checks in flannels and overshirts for men. Worn over a plain tee, they give a classic pattern a looser feel.

Broken plaid is the check that has been pulled apart: bigger scale, blurred edges, colors that bleed into each other. It is the easiest pattern to wear if you keep everything else plain, and I like it best over a white tee with dark denim. The Li-Ning Way of Wade shirt in black and white ombre is the loudest here and works as a light jacket.

For something quieter, Quince's fleece shirts in mocha, indigo and oatmeal check feel like a sweater you can wear as a shirt. The Filson flannels are the heavy, durable ones, and Carhartt WIP's Dayne has a dark check that goes with work boots. Gitman Vintage's pique flannel in deep teal is the one I would wear to dinner. Wear one plaid at a time, and let the rest of the outfit stay solid.
