Burc Akyol

Burc Akyol

Burc Akyol is a French couturier of Turkish descent whose tailor father introduced him to couture; he graduated from the Institut Français de la Mode in 2007 and worked at Dior under John Galliano and Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière before launching his own label in Paris. He calls his style new wave Mediterranean glamour, made to order mainly in Paris and Northern France with French and Italian silks, and he was an LVMH Prize finalist in 2023 and won the ANDAM Pierre Bergé Prize in 2025. This edit gathers his draped Caryatid dresses, column gowns and sculpted separates.

Draped dresses and gowns

Burc Akyol's dresses look like they were draped directly on a body, which makes sense for someone who learned couture from his father and then at Dior and Balenciaga. The Caryatid dresses, named for the carved columns of ancient temples, twist jersey and satin around the torso and fall into long columns. A leopard Caryatid, a satin Vestale, a lurex gown, a taffeta trimmed mini and a veiled dress all carry that Mediterranean glamour he talks about. These are evening dresses for women who want to look powerful rather than pretty.

Skirts, tops and tailoring

The separates are where you can wear Akyol every day. Caryatid maxi skirts, a relaxed satin top, a twist shoulder bodysuit, a bustier wrap top, a draped blazer, a knot front coat and Sultan trousers can be mixed with your own knits and boots. The Fuseaux stirrup leggings are the surprise favorite: tuck them into heels and wear them under a long coat. What I would skip is adding a printed piece next to the drapes; his shapes are the print.

How I would wear it

Start with one draped skirt or one Caryatid dress and build around its line. Akyol makes most pieces to order in France with hand finishing, so they are made to be kept for a long time.
