BY.DYLN Tops: What I'd Actually Buy First

BY.DYLN Tops: What I'd Actually Buy First

BY.DYLN is an Australian label for everyday clothes with a louder second personality. I like how a plain denim top and a viper-print dress live in the same closet, so this is where I would begin.

A label built around self-expression

I have a weakness for clothes that can be quiet on Tuesday and loud on Saturday, which is the whole appeal of BY.DYLN. Yvette Collis launched the label in 2020 while working in-house at FOUR FASHION GLOBAL, after more than 15 years in fashion wholesale and creative direction. She had worked alongside Australian names like Minkpink, Tallulah and Shona Joy, then held national sales roles at TigerMist and I.AM.GIA, and you can feel that mix of commerce and taste in how the wardrobe hangs together.

The label has an Australian home, and confidence, freedom and self-expression sit at the center, moving from everyday basics to bolder it-girl pieces. I like that range in practice: a cropped cotton halter, a cream button-front vest and a viper-print dress can share one closet without asking you to dress like someone else. The through line is contrast, familiar shapes with just enough hardware, color or skin to feel personal.

Tops with a point of view

The Armen Top is a cropped denim halter, and it feels made for high-rise bottoms, not for hiding under a second layer. Donella Vest takes the classic route in cotton twill, and then Penny Top turns the dial toward evening in black crepe. I like the push and pull between something sturdy and something sharper.

Picture her taking the Donella Vest from a long lunch into a late drink, then reaching for the Penny Top when the plan calls for a darker note. Keep the waist simple so the cropped hems have room. What I would skip is a busy necklace with the halter.

Denim and trousers with a sharper line

Armen Jeans echo the chocolate denim top, low and relaxed with a wide leg. Emmett Pant shifts to bone twill with a clean line that works with a tucked tee or a cropped knit, and Cooper Jeans bring a green option in for when another blue or neutral pair feels too expected.

That spread is what I want from everyday bottoms: one pair that can take a matching set, another that looks more considered with a plain tank. In my fashion dreams, she is crossing town in Armen Jeans, a compact top and flat shoes, then changing into Emmett for dinner without changing the mood. I would choose one standout waistband or color at a time and keep the rest quiet.

A dress, a jacket and the mini in between

Izara Dress is the bolder side of the label, a viper print with a halter tie and an uneven hem that moves when you walk. Monica Jacket is bright pink cotton, a utility layer I would throw over a simple dress or straight denim. For a smaller dose of color, Becky Mini Skirt is a grey crepe style with a little bow at the front.

I like how these let a dinner plan slide into a casual afternoon without a full closet change. Picture her in the Becky Mini Skirt, a fitted black top and boots for a birthday lunch, then adding the jacket when the evening cools. It is a short mini, so check the length against your own comfort first.

The fun of the contrast

For me, BY.DYLN works best when its opposites stay in the same conversation: cotton twill next to something sharper, a viper-print dress beside low-key denim. Collis started the label in 2020 around the idea of confidence, and that gives the variety a clear starting point.

I would begin with one piece that feels like an instinct, then let the rest of the outfit settle around it. The clothes have room for a quieter day and a louder night, although I suspect the louder night wins more often.
