Cetaphil lotion goes back to a pharmacist in Texas in 1947, and the formula has been reformulated since. I go through twelve Cetaphil pieces, from body lotions to lighter and richer face moisturizers.
Cetaphil Lotion, a Texas Pharmacist's Answer to Sensitive Skin

There is a white bottle with a teal label on almost every bathroom shelf I have stood in front of, and it is usually the Cetaphil lotion. The story starts in 1947 with a pioneering pharmacist in Texas, according to Galderma, which owns the brand today. The first product was Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion, now sold as Gentle Skin Cleanser, and the brand says that original formula had just eight ingredients and was fragrance free and soap free. The name is part chemistry and part sentiment, since Cet comes from cetyl alcohol and phil means love. I like that origin because it explains the personality: Cetaphil was designed by a pharmacist to help patients care for sensitive skin. The Moisturizing Lotion at the front of this edit is a newer chapter. In 2021 the brand changed the formula to add niacinamide, panthenol and glycerin, and it now says the lightweight lotion gives 48 hours of hydration and defends against a weakened skin barrier. Grid one is all body lotions: that one, a nourishing version with hyaluronic acid, a cracked skin formula and a firming lotion with mandelic acid.

Lighter or richer for the face
Face moisturizers are where I get picky, so I like that this shelf sorts itself by texture. Daily Hydrating Face Lotion is the lightest, written for combination skin with hyaluronic acid. Deep Hydration Water Gel is the cooling one, and the brand says it holds hydration for 72 hours with hyaluronic and polyglutamic acid, oil free and without fragrance or dye. Night Cream is an oil-free cream with hyaluronic acid meant for sleeping in, and Deep Hydration Face Cream is the cushier choice, with sunflower seed oil, vitamin B5 and vitamin E. The brand says the HydroSensitiv complex in the gel and the cream deepens hydration and soothes sensitive skin. Apply any of them to slightly damp skin, and remember that none of the four replaces a daytime sunscreen.
The supporting cast
Grid three is the supporting cast. Gentle Cleanser is the hydrating face wash with glycerin, panthenol and niacinamide, and the brand says it hydrates for 48 hours when wiped off instead of rinsed. Moisturizing Body Wash has shea butter and avocado oil and is made without fragrance or sulfates. Baby Daily Lotion adds organic calendula, vitamin E, sweet almond and sunflower oils, and for anything going on a newborn I would ask the pediatrician first. Healing Ointment is a petrolatum and shea butter ointment for dry, chapped hands and heels. What I would skip is using the ointment as an all-over lotion, because a thick petrolatum layer is better kept for small dry patches. Try a thin layer on damp hands at night under cotton gloves, and leave the rest of the body to a lotion.
A shelf you can explain
I would build this shelf from three bottles: a cleanser, a lotion for the body and a moisturizer for the face. Everything else is a seasonal extra, pulled out for winter hands or a new baby. Cetaphil has tested its products on more than 32,000 patients across more than 550 Galderma clinical studies, it says, and I find the plainness of the routine more convincing than any claim. If your skin reacts to anything here, stop and talk to a dermatologist.
