Chanel Loafers: What Kristen Stewart Wore Instead of the Two-Tone Heels

Chanel Loafers: What Kristen Stewart Wore Instead of the Two-Tone Heels

Chanel loafers are the easiest way into the house's shoes, and these are all pre-owned. Here are sixteen pairs, from quilted and platform to charm-trimmed and vintage, with a simple fit test to run at home.

Chanel showed its Cruise 2026/27 collection in Biarritz in April, and the knit set came with Art Deco-inspired two-tone heels. When Kristen Stewart wore that set later, Harper's Bazaar noted she skipped the heels and slipped on some chunky black loafers instead. That swap is the whole case for Chanel loafers, really: the house's codes, with a sole you can walk in.

Chanel has always been a house about ease. Gabrielle Chanel became a licensed milliner in 1910 and opened Chanel Modes at 21 rue Cambon in Paris, and in 1957 she introduced the two-tone slingback with the shoemaker Raymond Massaro, a feminine take on a masculine shoe. A loafer is a natural next chapter, and every pair below is pre-owned.

Here is a test you can run today. Stand in front of a mirror in your usual jeans and look at the sole. If you want the shoe to lead, choose a lug sole or a platform. If you want it to disappear, choose a flat with slim lines.

Quilted and Gold-Plaqued

Start here if you want the most recognizable version. The pre-owned CC Quilted Leather Lug-Sole Loafers are black quilted leather with a gold CC plaque and a chunky sole, which is about as close as you can get to what Kristen Stewart chose. The Interlocking CC Diamond-Quilted Loafers keep the same black but make the quilting the star. The Monte Carlo Heart Quilted Leather Loafers add a block heel and a gold CC heart plaque, from the 23C collection. The cream CC-Logo Quilted Chunky-Sole Loafers are the softest of the four. Tip: with cream, wear dark socks to ground it, and with black, let the gold hardware be your only metal.

Platforms and a Smoking Loafer

This is the group for people who want height without a heel. The pre-owned CC Platform Leather Loafers are polished black with a lug sole and a gold CC turn-lock plaque. The plain CC Leather Loafers have a gold CC bar on the vamp and a tan leather lining, a quiet detail you only see when you take them off. The white CC Platform Loafers have a chunky heel and a CC keeper strap, and the navy CC Smoking Loafers are a flat with a gold CC bit detail. Tip: a platform changes your trouser length, so hem or fold with the shoe on. What I would skip: ankle socks with the navy pair, which fight its dressy shape.

Chains, Coins and Charms

These four are the playful ones. The pre-owned Textured Calfskin Gold CC Chain-Link Moccasins are black calfskin with a gold CC chain link and a low stacked heel. The Heart Flower Charm Leather Loafers carry a gold chain of heart and flower charms across a cream vamp, and they are the sweetest thing in this edit. The 2023 Coin Embellished Classic Leather Loafers are black leather trimmed with five gold CC coins, and the Logo-Chain Leather Loafers in black patent have a chain strap across the front. Tip: when the shoe has this much going on, keep your jewelry small and let the loafer be the one shiny thing.

Vintage, Felt and Heeled

The oddest and most interesting pairs live here. The pre-owned 1986-1988 Coco Mark Turn-Lock Loafers are genuine vintage, with a turn-lock closure that looks nothing like the CC plaques of today. The 15A Salzburg Felt Penny Loafers are red wool felt from the Paris-Salzburg Metiers d'Art collection, and the Black Ottoman CC Mocassins Loafers are a flat in ribbed ottoman fabric. The Black Suede Interlocking CC Plate Loafer Heels, circa 1990s, are a heeled loafer in soft suede with a gold interlocking CC plate. Tip: felt and suede like dry weather, so save them for clear days and wear the ottoman pair on the others. What I would skip: pairing the red felt with a red bag. Let it stand alone.

Walk in Them First

With Chanel loafers, I buy the sole before the logo. Stewart's choice was chunky black loafers, not the pretty heels from the runway, and that tells you what the house wants from a loafer: you should be able to cross a city in it. Pick the height you will really wear, check the size against your usual Chanel size, and then let the hardware be the extra. A pre-owned pair that fits is better than a perfect pair that stays in the box. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Chanel Boots, From Quilted Combat Shapes to Tall Two-Tone Lines and Rolex Watch Dupe.
