Chloe sneakers come in two shapes and both refuse to look technical. The Nama is the soft, sculpted platform with a scalloped sole, and the Kick is the flat retro runner. Neither pretends to be a performance shoe, which is the whole point.
Chloe Sneakers Make The Case For A Soft Shoe
Making The Case For A Soft Shoe

A Soft Shoe In A Hard Category
Sneaker design has been an arms race of foam stacks and engineered mesh for a decade. Chloe went the other way. The Nama launched with a rounded, almost inflated silhouette and a scalloped sole that reads more like a piece of pottery than a running shoe, and it worked precisely because it refused the technical language everyone else was using. Chloe sneakers are designed to sit alongside a dress rather than a tracksuit, which is a rarer proposition than it sounds. The Kick is the other half of the answer, a low, flat retro runner in the mould of a 1970s trainer.
Nama Versus Kick, And The Materials
The Nama adds real height through its platform, so it changes the line of a trouser in a way the Kick does not. Within the Nama family, the woven and stitch versions are the most textural, the suede is the softest looking and the shearling-trimmed version is the winter one. The Kick is flatter, closer to the ground and much easier to wear with anything cropped. Kick styles in leather and suede combinations age better than all-suede. If your wardrobe is mostly full-length trousers and midi skirts, the Nama platform will serve you better. If you wear a lot of cropped or ankle-length hems, the Kick is the one that will not overwhelm them.
Our honest take
If you take one thing away, the Nama is the shoe people buy and the Kick is the shoe people keep wearing. The platform silhouette is genuinely comfortable and genuinely of a moment, and it will read as 2020s in a way the Kick never will. That is not an argument against it, just something to know. Chloe sneaker sizing runs slightly small and narrow, so a half size up is usually right. Suede uppers in either family will need protecting before first wear if you plan to use them in real weather. The shearling Nama is a beautiful object with a very short season. Woven Nama is the version that photographs best and the one that hides scuffs worst.
