Cinq à Sept was founded in 2016 in New York by Jane Siskin, the designer behind 7 For All Mankind and Elizabeth & James. The name is French for "five to seven," the hours between the office and the evening, and the brand has built its whole point of view around that window. Based in New York and sold first through department stores, it has grown into a label women reach for when one outfit has to do everything, with draped dresses, sharp tailoring and embellished separates that move easily from a day of meetings to dinner. It's a personal favorite of mine.

Dresses and skirts
Dresses are where the five to seven idea shows up most clearly. Cinq à Sept leans on draping, ruching and soft florals for pieces that look polished at a desk and still feel right at dinner. The range stretches from vegan leather minis to a hand sketched floral gown and a tulle dress with a bow, with a satin skirt for anyone who wants the same mood in two pieces.

Tailoring and outerwear
Tailoring is the quiet backbone of the label. Sharp blazers, a cropped denim jacket and easy trousers carry the daytime half of the idea, while a faux mink coat, a faux fur trimmed cardigan and embroidered jackets bring in the evening. These are the pieces that make a simple dress or a plain tee look finished, and most of them work as hard in January as they do in September.

Tops, knits and skirts
The separates are where the label gets playful. A feather tee, a lace top and a sequined pullover sit next to a vegan leather skirt that finishes the look from the waist down. Mix them with the tailoring above for the office, or pair them with a heel for the second half of the day.
Shoes
Footwear is the newest chapter. Cinq à Sept expanded into shoes in the fall of 2024, and the lineup already covers the full day, from a wedge Chelsea boot and scrunched leather booties to a patent slingback and a suede platform sandal. They are made to sit under the same dresses and trousers, so the whole outfit stays in one voice.
Built for the in-between
What holds Cinq à Sept together is how clearly it knows its customer. Jane Siskin built the label first for department stores and then opened its own boutiques, starting with a SoHo flagship in 2023, and the clothes still read as a woman's real calendar rather than a runway fantasy. It is a brand that understands one outfit often has to cover a lot of ground. I like to start with a draped dress, add a sharp blazer for the daytime half, and finish with a slingback or boot for everything after five. I went deeper on a related idea in Cinq à Sept Turns Ten, and Goes Out After Dark.
