Cloud Dancer is Pantone's Color of the Year for 2026, and this edit shows the ivory knits, coats, trousers, shirts, boots and bags that wear it in October. I would start with one sweater and build out from there.

Cloud Dancer: Wearing Pantone's Calm White Color of the Year in Winter Whites
Cloud Dancer, in a sweater
On December 4, 2025, Pantone announced PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer as its Color of the Year for 2026. The press release calls it "a billowy white imbued with a feeling of serenity." The program behind it began in 1999, and Cerulean, a blue, was the very first pick, for 2000. A white is a quieter choice than a blue, and I like that. It is also a color you can actually put on.
What Pantone describes, soft and lofty and a little vaporous, is not optic white. It is the ivory, chalk and cream end of the rack, the shades we usually call winter white. Pantone itself points to "plush and lofty wools" for the texture, and that is why I start with knitwear. A sweater is the easiest way to wear the color near your face, where it does the most. I went deeper on a related idea in White Jeans in Winter.
In the knits, I would begin with the AQUA cashmere v-neck in ivory, which is plain in the best way, or the White & Warren cashmere cardigan in soft white, a crew neck with a button placket you can wear open over a tee. The Vince turtleneck in off-white is the slim, sheer-ish one for under a blazer. If you want shape instead, the Jenni Kayne cropped cocoon cardigan in ivory is roomy and short, so it sits well on high-waisted trousers. REISS makes the Colette with exposed reverse seams, and Theory's ribbed merino has a polo collar that looks sharp with a skirt.
One practical tip for October: hold a sweater up in daylight against a real white tee. If it looks yellow next to it, the sweater is cream, and if it looks gray, it is closer to the Pantone shade. Know which one you are buying.

Off-white coats that stay soft
Winter white has an old place in the political wardrobe. For the 2005 inauguration, Oscar de la Renta made Laura Bush a winter white cashmere day ensemble, a dress topped with a matching embroidered coat. That is the kind of pale outerwear I picture when I think of the shade, calm and a little formal. The ones here are less formal and more wearable. If you want to keep going, Winter White Denim is the one I would read next.
The Favorite Daughter city coat in ivory is a long single-breasted tweed with padded shoulders, the one I would put over a black knit dress. RAILS makes the Roland in pale ivory, a belted wrap coat with a surplice neck and a tie belt, so it adjusts as the weather does. For plush, there is the Stand Studio Carolina in cream, a long shearling-style faux fur with snaps, and the XIRENA Daltry, a cream sherpa zip jacket with ribbed trim that suits a weekend away.
The lighter jackets do different jobs. The Burberry Fulbrook is an ivory quilted zip with fine-knit sleeves. The FRENKEN bomber in cream nylon looks best with wide trousers and boots. Veronica Beard's Chandler dickey jacket in cream twill is the tailored one, with shoulder pads and button cuffs.
At the fitting-room mirror, check the collar and cuffs first, because that is where pale fabric shows wear. Look at the lining too, and button the coat all the way. What I would skip: a sherpa or faux fur coat if your commute is a crowded train with a lot of bag straps, because the pile picks up lint fast.

Ivory trousers and skirts, wide to straight
Pantone calls the shade an anchor for monochromatic dressing, and trousers are where that gets tested. I would treat the white pant the way I treat a good pair of jeans: pick the cut first, then the fabric. In cream cotton, the Nili Lotan Tribeca is a high-waisted wide leg, made in the USA, with slant hip pockets. Nili Lotan's Shon is the vintage cream herringbone, which is textured enough to hide a shadow of lining.
For a looser day, the Jenni Kayne Beachwood baggy pants are cotton twill with a relaxed leg, and Madison the Label's Ranya pants have gathered elastic cuffs. Sea's Gardener pants have lace-trimmed hems, which are pretty with a chunky sweater and flat boots. For a sharper line, the Apiece Apart Bari crop trousers are pleated and straight in non-stretch twill, ankle showing, ready for loafers.
The linen pair is POSSE: the Noelle trousers are a relaxed straight leg in cream, and the Emma skirt is an ivory pencil with a back slit. Linen wrinkles, so I would pair either with a heavier knit and tights in October.
The test for any pale trouser is simple. Stand in front of a bright window and see what shows through, then sit down in the fitting room and check the seat. What I would skip: a wide pant in a thin fabric if you plan to wear it with boots in wet weather, since the hem will carry every splash.

White shirts and blouses, crisp to soft
Pantone suggests the shade in "a classic button-down, T-shirt, or jeans", and a good shirt is the quickest way to try the idea. I would not wear a stark white one with a cream sweater; I would let them sit slightly apart, and then the shirt looks like a deliberate collar. The Faherty Coastal poplin oversized shirt in white is a crisp cotton poplin, and the MOTHER Scrunchie Frenchie button-down is a white cotton one with covered placket, easy under a knit.
The Tibi Gabe oversized shirt is white cotton with button cuffs and a long sleeve. ANINE BING's Scott is the cropped one, a soft white cotton with a collar and patch pocket, which works with high-rise trousers. Another Tomorrow's French cuff linen blouse is soft white with three-quarter sleeves and a breast pocket.
The dressier choices are the Aje Rosanna shirt in ivory, lightweight with a detachable shoulder detail, and the FRAME Silk Gala shirt in cream, a relaxed silk button-up for evening. Nili Lotan's Elio is a white cotton mock-neck with ruffle trim, which is the one for a cardigan.
Before buying, hold the placket and cuffs to the light: a thin shirt will show every line of the layer underneath. Check the collar stand for stiffness, too, because it should hold up under a coat. What I would skip: a silk blouse for a day of rain or a long commute with a coffee in hand, since silk is the least forgiving fabric for stains.

Winter-white boots and bags, small and bright
Woolmark's care guide for sweaters has a line that applies here too: "The key to successful stain removal is speed." Pale boots and bags live by the same rule, so I would keep a soft cloth in a pocket and wipe off scuffs the same day. The accessories are where cream picks up the most dirt and also gives the biggest lift.
For boots, the Sorel Caribou Horizon in honey white is a lace-up winter boot with rubber toe and sides and shearling trim,. The UGG Fluff Momma Classic Short is a fluffy cream shearling slip-on. STAUD's Wally comes in two heights, an ankle boot in cream goatskin with a covered kitten heel and a knee-high pull-on in lambskin on a block heel, both made in Portugal.
The bags are chalk and cream leathers. The Isabel Marant Bolton hobo in chalk is slouchy with a drawstring. The Tory Burch Mellow shoulder bag in light cream has a top handle and zip. DeMellier's New York shoulder bag is off-white grained cowhide with gold hardware, and the Bembien Serena is a cream braided leather bag with a long braided handle.
Check the edges and handles on a pale bag, where color transfer from dark denim shows first. What I would skip: a pale suede or smooth boot for salted winter sidewalks, and wear the rubber-toe Sorel instead.
How I would wear it from here
I would begin with one sweater, in ivory or soft white, and wear it with the trousers you already own. Then add a coat or a pair of boots, so the pale shade appears twice, once up high and once down low.
Wash gently, blot spills at once and dry knits flat on a white towel. That is the whole routine.
Pantone staff put it this way: Cerulean is the sky, and this white is the clouds. I like that. In my fashion dreams, October is the month you stop looking up and start dressing like the weather.
