Comfort Knit

Comfort Knit

A men's edit of the softest knits for cooler days, from quarter-zips and cable crews to cashmere and Fair Isle. Built for the guy who wants one good sweater to wear all week.

The sweater I reach for first every fall is never the fanciest one, it is the softest. I like a quarter-zip when the morning is cold and the afternoon is not, so Polo Ralph Lauren's merino version in charcoal and J.Crew's midweight cashmere in navy do most of the work. They sit under a jacket or on their own with chinos.

When I want something with more texture, Brooks Brothers has a Fair Isle that looks like it came out of a family closet, and Faherty's Jackson crew in olive goes with almost every pair of jeans. Quince and UNIQLO cover the everyday basics, while RAILS and Alex Mill are the ones I would save for a sweater that has to feel properly good. Check the neckline and the cuffs first, because that is where a knit shows its age.
