Country Club Outfits

Country club dressing became an aesthetic the moment it stopped requiring a country club. Pleated skirts, cable knits and flat shoes now read as a whole reference to old money leisure, which is why the look has outlived the tennis trend that carried it in. This edit builds it from the three pieces that actually do the work.

Pleated skirts

The pleated skirt is the load bearing piece of the entire look. It carries the sport reference without any of the performance fabric, which is why it turns up far from a court and still reads as intentional.

Loafers and flats

The shoe is what keeps this from tipping into costume. A loafer or a flat says the outfit was assembled to walk around in, and it has quietly replaced the sneaker as the default for anyone dressing preppy on purpose.

Polos, knits and vests

Polos, cable knits and vests are the top half of the reference and the part that survives into autumn. Layered over a collar it reads borrowed, which is the entire point of the aesthetic.

Our honest take

This look fails when it gets too literal, and a full head to toe kit reads like a uniform rather than a wardrobe. Take one piece, put it with things you already own, and let the rest stay ordinary. If you take one thing away, the pleated skirt is the buy and the rest is styling.
