Cream and burgundy is the dressed-up cousin of cream and brown, and it suits fall better than almost anything. These five outfits pair wine suede, calf hair and velvet with ecru knits, cloqué and soft tailoring. Keep the cream soft and let the burgundy be the dark note.

Cream and Burgundy Outfits to Try This Fall
At her Spring 2025 Diotima presentation, Rachel Scott showed an intarsia knit dress with swooping shapes in cream and wine, which Vogue singled out as a standout. She had mapped the shapes on a model's body so the pattern wrapped around the wearer, and the two colors do the work of a drawing: cream is the paper, burgundy is the ink.
Burgundy is a dark, slightly bruised red, and cream is the softest thing you can put next to it. Black can make burgundy look heavy, and white makes it look severe. Cream lets it glow, which is why the pairing feels warm in a way that red and black never quite does.
A quick test: hold a burgundy bag or scarf against a cream knit near your face. If your skin looks brighter and the wine looks richer, rather than muddy, you have the right cream for you.

Wine Shoes, Cream Wrap
I started this grid with the cream part: Moncler's cable-knit alpaca-blend snood is thick enough to read as a scarf and a hood in one, and it is the quickest way to put cream near your face. Déhanche's Mija belt is ivory leather with turquoise stones, which is a surprising and very good detail on a wine coat. Proenza Schouler's Trap 60 ankle boots are burgundy stretch leather with a lizard-effect trim, and Dragon Diffusion's Bamboo Triple Jump tote is woven burgundy leather. Wear the boots and tote together and let the snood be the only light thing.

A Cream Cardigan, Velvet Flares
Dôen's Darcy cardigan is a wool and cashmere blend in a creamy off-white, soft enough to wear all day and slightly slouchy at the hem. Veronica Beard's Gracie pants are burgundy velvet with a flare that skims the shoe, so the whole outfit has a slight seventies mood. Jamie Haller's Kitty Point 30 pumps are burgundy calf hair, and Lié Studio's Lou shoulder bag is the same calf hair in a smaller shape. How to wear it: tuck the cardigan into the pants and keep jewelry gold and small. What I would skip: a cream shoe here, since the velvet already carries the shine.
Burgundy Cashmere, Ecru Cloqué
Arch4's Aspen cardigan is burgundy cashmere, and it is the kind of sweater that makes plain cream look intentional. Fforme's Mena skirt is an ivory cloqué cotton blend with a raised, puffy texture, cut to the midi so there is room to see the boots or pumps. Gianvito Rossi's Claudia 105 pumps are burgundy suede trimmed in lace, which is dressier than anything else in this edit, and Saint Laurent's Loulou is a matelassé suede shoulder bag in the same deep wine. This is the outfit for a dinner where you want to look like you thought about it, not like you tried.
The Ecru Dress and the Wine Jacket
Proenza Schouler's Lothea dress is an ecru wool blend cut on an angle, so it falls in a slanted line instead of straight down. Zimmermann's Clash jacket is burgundy cotton drill with a drawstring waist, which adds a casual, slightly utility edge to a very soft dress. Gucci's Signora 55 pumps are burgundy patent leather with the Horsebit, and Bottega Veneta's Andiamo top-handle bag is Intrecciato leather in the same wine. Wear the jacket open and cinch it only if the dress is loose enough to let you.
A Cream Blazer, a Wine Silk Top
Joseph's Myra blazer is a woven cream jacket with a slightly nubby surface, and it makes a good case for wearing cream on top instead of on the bottom. Aflalo's Reysa top is ruched burgundy silk crepe, cut close, and St. Agni's gathered cotton-poplin skirt is a clean cream knee length. Aquazzura's Bellezza 105 pumps are burgundy velvet, so the pumps and the top echo each other across the outfit. If the blazer feels too crisp, push the sleeves up two turns and let the silk show at the wrist.
Keep the Cream Soft
The one rule I follow with this pairing is to keep the cream soft. Ivory, ecru, oat and milk all flatter burgundy, while stark white makes it look flat. Give burgundy the shoes and bags, since dark accessories ground a cream outfit, and keep cream near your face. If you only have one of the two, start with a burgundy bag, because most of what you already own in cream will go with it.
