Dark Suiting

Dark Suiting

A men's edit of dark suits and separates in navy, charcoal and black. For the guy who wants a sharp, slim silhouette that works from the office to a wedding.

Dark suiting is the one corner of a man's closet where I never want to be creative with the color. Navy, charcoal and black do the work, and the details are what make them look sharp. A Suitsupply navy suit is the kind I would tell any guy to own first, and DKNY and Nautica make modern navy options that fit slim without feeling tight.

Once you have the suit, I like to break it up. A charcoal Theory jacket with its own trousers, or Officine Generale's fresco wool jacket over dark pants, gives you three or four outfits from two pieces. Michael Kors does the three-piece with a vest in a deep charcoal, which is my pick for a winter wedding. Finish with black oxfords and a plain tie, and check the shoulder seam sits flat before anything else.
