Diesel Shirt for Women: The Logo T-Shirt Is the One Everyone Means

A Diesel shirt for women can mean a denim button-up or, far more often right now, a logo T-shirt, and this edit sorts both. It covers denim, satin and chiffon shirts, graphic and logo T-shirts, and the fitted tops, tanks and long sleeves.

Diesel started in 1978, when Renzo Rosso set out, according to the group that owns the brand, to make the world's most innovative denim. The name came from the 1970s oil crisis, when diesel was the alternative fuel and Rosso liked the idea of an alternative jeans brand. He also liked that it is a word pronounced the same way everywhere. The slogan, For Successful Living, has been there since the start.

I want to be honest about the search before we go any further. When women search for a Diesel shirt, a lot of them are picturing a logo T-shirt, not a button-down. That is where most of this edit goes, and I will say plainly which pieces are T-shirts and tops and which are real shirts. The shirts are the smaller group, and they are all in this first grid.

It makes sense that they lead with denim, given where the brand came from. The Blue One-Button Denim Shirt and the One-button denim shirt with patch effects are the easiest to wear: open over a white tee, or buttoned up with trousers. The Denim shirt with embroidered logo is the one that carries the logo as a stitched detail. The Full-zip shirt in denim swaps buttons for a zip, so try it zipped halfway over a plain tee.

Then there are the pieces that are shirts in name and a bit of a surprise in practice. The Shirt in marbled fluid denim and the Black De-Waves Shirt are the two I would try if you want something less classic than a plain blue shirt. The Long shirt in logo-jacquard crinkled satin and the Chiffon shirt with all-over floral print are the dressy end: a lighter or shinier layer you can leave open over a slip dress or a plain tank. My fitting-room test for any of these is simple. Lift your arms, and check that the hem and the cuffs stay where you want them.

Logo and graphic T-shirts, the ones people mean

Now the grid most of you came for. A Diesel shirt for women, in the way people actually say it, is a T-shirt with the brand on it. The oval D logo got new life under creative director Glenn Martens, who joined in 2020, and he has told Vogue Business that it stands for being free, sexy and included. You can see it on almost everything here.

For the plainest version, start with the T-Angie chest-logo T-shirt. The T-Angie logo-embroidery T-shirt appears twice in this grid, so pick the colorway you will wear with jeans and stop there. The White Cut-Out Embroidered Logo T-shirt and the White Metallic Oval D Cotton T-shirt are the white pair, and the Black Metallic Oval D Cotton T-shirt is the one to wear under a blazer. I like a logo tee with tailoring, because the contrast is the point.

Some pieces are less about the logo and more about the shape. The T-Bunny-Tail tie-waist T-shirt gives you a knot at the waist, and the Beige Ribbed Wrap-Around Laces T-shirt has laces wrapped around it. The Tan T-Dani T-shirt and the Gray T-Icaty T-shirt are the quieter colors, and the T-Boxt-Div T-shirt is the one to try on beside the slimmer cuts.

The rest are for people who want a little more going on. The Pink Dévoré Phoenix T-shirt, the Pink Slim Pig Print T-shirt and the Pink T-Uncutieslong-Od T-shirt are the three pinks. The Slim jersey T-shirt with print and studs and the Jersey t-shirt with rhinestones and burnout effect are the ones for evenings. Check the neckline and the sleeve length in the mirror, and make sure the print sits where you want it.

Fitted tops, tanks and long sleeves

These are the fitted pieces, and they are where the oval D logo gets cut up, stretched and turned into a detail. Most of this grid is jersey, and it is made to sit close to the body, so it works under jackets or alone with low-rise jeans or a long skirt.

Start with the cutout styles. The Cutout top with oval D logo and the T-Uncutie cut-out detail long-sleeve top both use the logo as a shape you can see through, and the Slim tank top with laser-cut Oval D does something similar on a tank. The Oval D-logo tank top is the plainer way to wear the logo. The Brown Cracked Leather-Effect Jersey Top is the oddest piece in the edit, a jersey that looks like leather, and I would wear it with plain black trousers and nothing else loud.

The long sleeves are a big group. The T-Uncutieslong-Ls-Od T-shirt comes in White and in Black, the T-Uncutie-Long-Od T-shirt appears twice, and the T-Ele-Long-Od top, the M-Valari long-sleeved T-shirt and the T-Uncuties-Long graphic print T-shirt fill out the rest. The Black Long Sleeve Metallic Oval D Ribbed T-shirt is the one I would put under a vest or a slip dress. The ribbed jersey tops, one with an all-over patch print and one with a graphic print, and the Slim fit top with digital print are the ones with a pattern.

What I would skip: a tight, cropped top under a jacket you cannot take off, and anything with cutouts if you will be wearing it on a long day with a bag strap on one shoulder. The straps and the cutouts will fight. I would also skip the loudest print if your jeans already have a lot going on.

How I would pick and wash a Diesel top

Here is how I would choose. Pick the logo you will actually wear most, a white or black tee, before anything with studs or rhinestones. Try it with the jeans you own, and check how the hem sits and whether the neckline stays flat when you move.

For the denim shirts, I follow the usual denim care advice: turn the piece inside out, wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle, and air dry. That advice is for denim in general, not for these exact shirts, so check the label first. Wash it after about every 10 wears and spot clean small marks in between. The satin and chiffon pieces and the printed jersey tops are better with the care label, not my guess.

If you only buy one thing, buy the one that makes you want to reach for it on a Monday. For me that is the plain logo tee, then the denim shirt, then the fitted long sleeve for evenings. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Thin Bras That Don't Show Through a T-Shirt and T-Shirts, Tanks, And Everyday Tops.
