Drip nails echo the Kylie Lip Kit logo, and Allure counts them among the nail art trends that erupted in 2019. I trace the look from Kylie's neon pink drips to the press-ons, jelly gels and top coats that get you there.
Drip Nails Went From Kylie's Lip Kit to Everyone's Tips

Kylie Started the Drip
Allure counts drip nails among the nail art trends that erupted in 2019. The face of it was Kylie Jenner, who posted neon pink drips by manicurist Chaun P. Legend. POPSUGAR says that was a repeat of a 2016 manicure, and that the drip motif echoes her Lip Kit logo. A related look, 3D water-droplet nails, is credited by POPSUGAR to nail artist So Jin Oh, who was inspired by an early-1990s image from a Japanese nail artist. In October 2025 Marie Claire noticed Jenner in pink drip nails again, as a nod to her King Kylie era.
There is no single inventor, and that is part of the charm. Drip nails are just nail art where the color seems to slide down from the tip, like paint or icing. The collage below shows five: a pink jelly drip, chocolate brown over cream, a milky white drip, a silver chrome drip and a deep red one.
The first grid is drip and 3D press-ons, from bubbly and pastel to a red one that looks ready to run. The second is the other half of the look, jelly gels and glossy top coats, because a drip only reads as a drip when it shines.
Here is a test I like: hold a set at arm's length under a lamp. If the light slides across it like wet paint instead of sitting flat, that is a drip nail worth wearing.

Drip and 3D Press-Ons
Six of these are from KISS, and the Nail Drip line is where most of the fun is. Americano Drip is a short pink oval with special effects, and Drip Drip Drip is a multicolor squoval, also short. SOS Drip is a beige almond in a medium length and looks like sheer pink with 3D charms in the photo. All glue on, and the brand says they wear up to 14 days.
The Sweet Shop sets are the candy versions, described as whimsical, candy-inspired nails in colorful pastels with 3D effects. Straight Drippin is a blue medium coffin, Hot Drip is a beige short oval, and Drip Shine is a purple short oval. If you like a sugar-store manicure, this is the one.
Olive & June's Milky 3D Bubbles is a much calmer choice, a milky sheer mani with 3D puffy bubbles in a short squoval, and the closest thing here to the water-droplet look. ohora's N Blood Drop is the dramatic one. It is a red marble design that goes from a sheer pink syrup color into deep red, a Halloween mood, the brand says, that draws attention to the tips.
My pairing: choose one drip set and keep everything else quiet, like a plain sweater and one ring.
If you are new to drips, start with Milky 3D Bubbles or Americano Drip. If you have a costume party coming, N Blood Drop is made for it.
What I would skip: the 3D sets on days you type all day or reach into pockets and bags. Raised details snag, so save them for when you are out and about.

Jelly Gels and Glossy Top Coats
A drip is a shine effect, so this grid is about gloss. Olive & June has three sheer builder gels. Blush Jelly is a sheer rosy pink, the barely-there blush for nails. Rose Glaze is sheer pink with an iridescent shimmer. Bubble Gloss is a sheer bright pink, the bubblegum one. All three are pink, and a sheer pink base is what lets a drip on top look wet.
Then the top coats. Olive & June's Speed Gloss sits between its Super Glossy and Quick Dry top coats, and the brand calls it the Goldilocks of top coats. Chanel's Le Gel Coat is a clear top coat made for its Le Vernis nail color, with film-forming resins and camellia eco-ceramides. Hermès has a transparent gel lacquer top coat that gives a high-gloss finish over its Les Mains color. Londontown's High Gloss Top Coat is meant to look like glass, and the brand says it is chip resistant. ohora's Pro Glossy Top Gel is a gel top coat for strips or a gel manicure, with a brush made to spread it streak-free.
A trick I like: paint a gel, then put the drip on top and seal with the top coat, going slightly over the edge of the tip. Sealing the free edge helps a glossy design last.
What I would skip: putting a heavy coat of gloss over 3D press-ons. It can pool around the raised bits. Use the top gels on flat art only.

Wet Look, Dry Nails
I think drip nails are the most playful thing you can do to a short manicure, and the fun of them is shine. The color matters less than the glossy finish, which is why I would put my effort into the top coat.
My rule: one drip per hand or one color of drip per set, then a plain outfit. If the nails are doing something wet and dramatic, everything else should be dry and simple.
