Home eyebrow waxing goes right when you prepare the skin, keep the tools small and care for it afterwards. I go through wax kits and strips, tweezers and razors, and clear gels that hold the shape.

Eyebrow Waxing at Home: Kits, Tweezers, Clear Gels and Aftercare
Brows with a point of view
In 1940, Frida Kahlo painted Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird. Her bold brows frame her face in it, dark and unapologetic. The painting was bought by Nickolas Muray, and it now hangs at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin. Nobody looking at it thinks the brows are an afterthought.
I think about that every time someone asks about eyebrow waxing. A brow is a decision, and waxing is the quickest way to make it: one pass and the edges are clean. It is also the way to make a decision you regret, because brow skin is thin. The dermatologists Allure spoke to, Mona Gohara and Dr. Marmur, lean toward a trained professional for the face, and warn of burning, scarring and irritation when it goes wrong. So my rule is simple. Let a professional shape the brow. Use home tools for the maintenance in between.
The trick is to keep the home kit small and specific. The American Academy of Dermatology says to test wax on the inside of your wrist first, and to keep hair between roughly a quarter and three quarters of an inch. Nad's Natural Precision Eyebrow Wand Waxing Kit is the most brow-specific thing in the first grid, and KISS's Brow Wax Kit comes with a refill, which is handy for a small area. Flamingo's Women's Face Wax Kit and Nad's Facial Wax Strips cover the upper lip and cheeks too. Sally Hansen's Snip & Use strips let you cut a piece to the size of the arch, and Nair's Sensitive strips are the one to try if your skin is fussy.

Tweezers and razors for tidying brows
Start with the lighting. Stand at a window, hold a hand mirror close, and only pluck the stray hairs you can see from arm's length in daylight. That single habit prevents most over-plucked brows.
Tweezers are the tool I trust more than any wax for the in-between. Tweezerman's Classic Slant Tweezer and Pink Perfection Slant are both slanted, which is the shape I like for the fine hairs at the edge of the brow. Anastasia Beverly Hills' Slant-Tip Stainless-Steel Precision Tweezers and the Sephora Collection Slant Eyebrow Tweezer are the same idea from two other brands, and Sally Hansen's Raise Some Brows is another slant-tip option.
Razors are for the faint hairs and the edges. Ardell's Pro Brow Trim & Shape Disposable Razors and its Eyebrow Shaper and Facial Razor Tool are small enough to control, and KISS's Silky Edge is a facial dermaplaner that shapes the brow as it smooths. Use a light touch and a fresh blade.
A pairing I like: wax for the shape every few weeks, and tweezers for the stragglers on the days between. Do not tweeze the same area you just waxed. Allure's advice is to stop tweezing for about four weeks before a wax, so that hair has grown enough to be caught.
What I would skip: any razor or wax on a sunburn. The AAD says never to wax sunburned or very sensitive skin.

Clear brow gels to hold shape after waxing
One rule for gel: brush the brows up and out first, then set them. A brow that is brushed in the direction of the hair looks combed. Brushed up, it looks full.
After a wax the shape is clean, and a clear gel is what keeps it looking intentional. Kosas's Air Brow Clear Lifting Treatment Gel and Rare Beauty's Brow Harmony are the two lifting and laminating options. Benefit's 24-HR Brow Setter and Milk Makeup's KUSH Clear Eyebrow Lamination Gel go for the laminated, brushed-up look, where the hairs are lifted and held in place. Anastasia Beverly Hills' Clear Brow Gel is a flexible medium hold, and Urban Decay's Slick Day is the strong-hold one for windy days.
ILIA's In Frame Brow Gel and the Sephora Collection Shape & Set Clear Eyebrow Gel are the ones I would try for a softer, everyday brow. Allure suggests keeping makeup off freshly waxed brows, so wait a day before adding anything tinted.
A pairing I like: a clear gel on top of a tint, or a gel alone over the natural brow, the way it looks in the photograph above. Keep the wand clean and the tube closed, or the formula dries and flakes.
What I would skip: a strong-hold gel the morning after waxing. Freshly waxed skin is tender, and a stiff formula needs more brushing. A softer gel is kinder.

Soothing skin care for after waxing
A habit worth borrowing: treat the day of a wax as a skincare rest day. The AAD advises avoiding hot showers, a cold pack for pain, and an oil-free moisturizer afterward. Allure adds a fragrance-free gel cleanser to lift the wax residue, and a barrier cream.
That makes this grid a short list of calm things. AESTURA's ATOBARRIER365 Lightweight Face Lotion is the plain, quiet moisturizer. Glow Recipe's Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum, with ceramides in the name, is a serum for a day when the skin feels tight. Dr. Barbara Sturm's Calming Serum and Dieux's Deliverance 3-in-1 Repair Serum are aimed at redness, which is exactly the thing you want to soothe.
innisfree's Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer is a hydrating cream, and the brand's Green Tea Ceramide Mist is a spray for a quick cool-down. Summer Fridays' Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist and Torriden's DIVE IN 5D Hyaluronic Acid Glow Mist work the same way, a light layer over the brows and cheeks.
A pairing I like: a mist first, then a light barrier cream pressed on. Do not rub.
What I would skip: retinol, exfoliating acids and scrubs for about three days on either side of a wax. Allure and the AAD both say to pause them, and if redness or swelling lasts more than two days, see a dermatologist.

The brow I would keep
I think the best brow is the one that still looks like yours. Kahlo's brows are the first thing you read in that painting, and they read as hers.
So I would keep a professional for the shape, a slant tweezer for the maintenance, a clear gel for the finish and a calm serum for the evening. Test the wax on your wrist, be gentle around the eyes, and leave the arch alone if you are unsure. Kahlo had thorns and a hummingbird. You have a tweezer, and that is plenty. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Eyebrow Growth Serum Picks for Growing Out Your Brows.
