Favorite Daughter clothing comes from sisters Erin and Sara Foster, who launched the Los Angeles brand in December 2020. I sorted the line into tops, trousers and shorts, and skirts, with the bustiers I would start with.

Tops and shirting

Shirting is close to the brand's founding logic, since the Fosters have said repeatedly that Favorite Daughter exists to fix the gaps in their own wardrobes rather than to chase a runway idea. The tops lean toward pieces that work across a full day, not just a photo. It is the same instinct that turned a sweatshirt joke into a business.

Trousers and shorts

Trousers and shorts are where the brand's promise of practical, wearable clothing for busy women gets tested most directly. Erin and Sara Foster have talked about designing for their own active schedules, on camera and off. The category favors ease over anything fussy.

Skirts

Skirts round out a line that was profitable by its second year, according to Sara Foster, and has kept expanding methodically since its 2020 launch. The pieces stay in line with the label's original pitch: clothes that fit an actual day rather than an aspirational one. It is a smaller category for a brand still best known for its separates.

Jackets and blazers

Outerwear and tailoring show how far Favorite Daughter has come from its origin as a novelty sweatshirt collaboration with Suburban Riot in 2018. Centric Brands, the company behind Joe's Jeans and Hudson, gave the Fosters the production backing to build out a full line rather than a one off capsule. The tailoring here is meant to be worn, not just photographed.

Textured layers, knits and dresses
