Flattered Bags And Shoes: A Shopper's Guide

Flattered Bags And Shoes: A Shopper's Guide

Flattered is a Stockholm label that began with an indoor ballet flat and now makes shoes and bags with a Scandinavian eye. I like how practical its starting point was, and this edit covers both.

The slipper that started it all

I love a brand that begins with a small domestic annoyance. In Scandinavia people take their shoes off at the door, and in 2013 Hanna Kwiatkowska Tisner came up empty looking for a women's indoor slipper that felt as considered as the men's versions. She and her partner Gustav Lidén had day jobs, so they worked on the idea at night and on weekends, then found a family-owned factory near Porto. Their first ballet flat, with an almond-shaped toe and a wool insole, gave the brand its name.

Isabella Löwengrip and Pingis Hadenius joined as founders, and around 2017 the look moved toward Scandinavian minimalism with a stronger focus on craft. Today the shoes and bags are designed in Stockholm and made in Europe, and the first permanent Stockholm store opened in 2024. The brand's own account tells the origin story well. I went deeper on a related idea in BY FAR Shoes and Bags: The Pieces Worth the Price. I went deeper on a related idea in Jimmy Choo's New Evening Shoes and Bags.

I like that the starting point stayed practical: a shoe made to feel good at home, then built for the rest of the day.

Bags in soft shapes and strong color

The bags have a pleasing conversation going between scale and surface. The Agnes Mini Bag in suede sand and the Lydia Mini Bag in chocolate suede keep the palette soft, while the Alva Mini Bag in black gives the small-bag idea a sharper edge. The Clay Clutch and Clay Bag share a name, so I would decide by how much you need to carry, not by color.

Picture her in a long coat with the Alva Shoulder Bag in sand suede, then trading it for the Hanna Grande Top Handle Bag in black croc when the outfit wants texture. The Maris Tote Bag in burgundy leather is the roomiest shape of the lot, and the Gaia Shoulder Bag in black is the low-key alternative. Check the strap length over the coat you actually wear, since thick sleeves change where a bag sits.

Shoes made for the longer day

Flattered started with a ballet flat, and the shoes still read best when comfort is part of the plan instead of an afterthought. The Bon Bon Loafer, Sara Loafer and Marlon Loafer are three black options for polished trouser looks, and the Dylan Loafer in chocolate suede softens the palette. For colder days there are the Xena Boot in chocolate, the Alma Boot and Aurora Boot in black, and the Amelia Boot in sand.

In my fashion dreams, the Xena Boot anchors a long skirt, with a loafer peeking out under a straight hem. My tip is to think about the socks you expect to wear before choosing a boot, because a clean profile only matters if the shoe works on your actual walk.

A useful idea, carried forward

I like that Flattered's story starts with a useful question and never abandons the human part of getting dressed. A wool-lined indoor ballerina, a leather bag made in Europe, a loafer chosen for a long day: these pieces bring minimalism down to the scale of touch and movement.

The range has grown a lot since 2013, but that first instinct, to make a woman feel dressed without asking her to give up comfort, still gives me a clear reason to look. Although I will admit the boots are what I would look at first.
