Formal Boy

Formal Boy

A men's formal edit built around tailored blazers, fine knits and polished shoes for weddings, dinners and black tie. Wear it dark and close fitting.

Dressing up as a guy does not have to mean a rented tuxedo. My version of formal is a sharp navy or charcoal blazer, a fine knit underneath and shoes that actually shine. Boss and Hugo make the suit jackets I would start with because the shoulders sit right without any fuss. Reiss and Ted Baker have good herringbone and stretch blazers if you want some texture.

Underneath, Ralph Lauren's cable knits and the Rails cashmere crewneck in charcoal do the quiet work a dress shirt cannot. Then the shoes. Ferragamo and Allen Edmonds both make patent tuxedo loafers that look right with a black suit, and Greats leather sneakers are my pick when the invite says dressy but the night will be long. Keep everything dark, keep the fit close and let one piece stand out.
