Gold Hinge Tops: Everyday Picks to Know

Gold Hinge Tops: Everyday Picks to Know

Gold Hinge is a women-owned Indiana label that started as an online boutique and grew into athleisure. I like clothes that treat a workout as one part of the day, and this edit is the tops and knitwear.

The student who started an activewear label

I love a brand that begins with a practical itch instead of a runway fantasy. Katherine Watercutter was 23 and in her fifth year of studying interior architecture and design when she started Gold Hinge as an online boutique in fall 2018, and the e-commerce business followed in January 2019. It sold wholesale clothing at first, then drifted toward original athleisure as she took a bigger hand in the design (looking, sketching, testing fabric, staying close to the numbers).

Today it is an Indiana-rooted, women-owned company with Watercutter still leading it. The Indianapolis Colts teamed up with the brand on a five-piece women's capsule in August 2026, which makes sense to me: team clothes can be expressive, and activewear does not need to be saved for an actual workout. When I think of Gold Hinge, I picture a calendar that goes from a morning walk to errands to a good game. I went deeper on a related idea in Everyday Gold Jewellery That Does Not Turn Your Skin Green. I went deeper on a related idea in Dresses, Tops, and Everyday Separates.

Training tops and soft layers

This lineup has a nice in-between quality. It reads as activewear but does not insist your day begin at a gym. The Open Back Sweetheart Tank Top has the more open neckline, while the Strydeform Tank Top and Motioncloud Sports Bra are the straightforward training pieces. The Mock Neck Sleeveless Top is the tidier one of the group.

For softer layers, the Heritage Crewneck Sweatshirt and the Country Club Sweatshirt take the familiar crewneck into travel days, class or a slow morning at home. Picture her leaving Pilates with a coffee in one hand and the Heritage Crewneck over her workout set, keeping it on through a few errands. A tip from me: pick the sports bra for how much support you want, and the tank for how covered you want to be.

Knitwear for the court and beyond

Gold Hinge keeps letting sport and daily dressing trade places, and this group shows it. The Oversized Crest Sweater and Cable Knit Sweater bring the knit texture, while the Sport Pleated Tennis Skirt and Luxesoft Bubble Skirt give the same casual mood two very different shapes.

When I want a one-piece answer, the Lined Active Dress does the athletic thing without a top-and-bottom decision. The Wide Leg Sweatpant and Double Waist Strydeform Short are the easy ones for a commute or a long errand day. In my daydream she is heading to a friendly doubles match, then tossing the Oversized Crest Sweater over the pleats when the breeze picks up. What I would skip: a skirt you have not checked for comfort, because that is the detail that decides whether it makes the bag.

For the day after the workout

Gold Hinge works for me because it treats exercise as one part of a day, not the whole personality. Watercutter went from wholesale buying to hands-on design, which suggests a label that learned what its customers wanted before narrowing its focus, and the Indiana roots keep it feeling like a community.

I would start with the piece that fits the day ahead, then let a bold skirt, a plain tank or a soft sweater add the personality. It is clothing for a real calendar, where plans change and comfort still gets a say. Although I admit the sweatshirts will probably win.
