A skin-led point of view built over decades of artistry

Gregory Arlt began his makeup career at Los Angeles boutique Fred Segal in 1989, then joined M·A·C as a traveling artist in 1993. He rose to Director of Makeup Artistry and stayed with the brand until 2022.

On M·A·C's artist profile, Arlt puts radiant skin at the center of the face and lists Fix+, Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15, Pro Longwear Concealer and Lightful Foaming Cleanser among his favorites. This edit carries that approach into current prep, complexion and cheek products.

Color, character and artistry beyond the runway

Arlt's official biography names Dita Von Teese, Gwen Stefani and Cher among his clients, and credits him for runway makeup at shows in Paris, Milan and New York. He has worked with designers including Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen and Michael Kors.

His honors include the 2015 Hollywood Beauty Award for Makeup Artist of the Year and an Ibiza Music Video Festival award for Best Makeup in a Music Video for Gwen Stefani's Misery. The Los Angeles Times also reported that he developed M·A·C's Shimmer Soufflé while working on Cher's last tour.

Where I would start with Gregory Arlt's makeup approach

Start with M·A·C Prep + Prime Fix+ Matte to keep the complexion fresh. Then choose either a defined eye or a clear lip line, leaving room for skin to show through. That balance feels right for fall evenings and close-up lighting.
