Hunza G Story: The Brand, the Crinkle and Every Style It Makes

Hunza G is a London swim and resort label best known for Original Crinkle, a stretchy tubular knit that lets one cut fit many bodies. Peter Meadows founded the original Hunza in 1984, and Georgiana Huddart relaunched it as Hunza G in 2015. This story walks through the whole brand, from its history to every style I could find across eight retailers.

Meadows found the polyamide and elastane crinkle fabric at a trade show in the 1980s while he was looking for body-con dress fabrics, at a time when Alaïa was the reference point. He saw that it suited swimwear. The brand reached Whitney Houston in the video for "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" and Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The core one-pieces below are where I would begin: Pamela, Square Neck, Domino, Celine, Sandy, Clara, Camille and Faye.

Georgiana Huddart relaunched Hunza G in 2015 after tracking down Peter Meadows, and she added the G to mark a new era. Her idea was a more democratic brand, with a broad range of colors that work across skin tones and shapes that suit most body types.

That thinking shows in the second group of one-pieces. Tyra has long sleeves and a zip, Brooke is strapless, and both the Clara and the Nancy have a single shoulder strap. Sandy comes as a halterneck here, Katya has a zip front, and Toni has a ring at the neckline. I would choose by neckline first, because the fabric handles the sizing.

Original Crinkle is a seamless tubular knit made on specialist machines at a family-run factory in Europe, exclusively for Hunza G. Huddart has said that with no seams there are no points of failure, so the fabric stretches in every direction without bunching. A single swimsuit holds more than nine million stitches.

Hardware is the easiest way to change the look of that fabric. The Celine appears with a circle insert, a hoop front and an O-ring, the Domino with a circle insert and ring hardware, and the Jasmine with an O-ring, a tonal hoop and a fabric hoop. Pick the metal or the tonal finish depending on how quiet you want the suit to be.

The beaded one-pieces are the dressiest Hunza G swimsuits, and Mia is the style that appears most often here, in four versions. Two of the Mia versions have a cutout and one has a keyhole, while the Adriana is a beaded plunge.

Melody has an embellished finish in white, and the Celine and Toni each carry embellished detailing. I would wear any of these for a hotel dinner by the water with a sarong tied at the hip. Keep the rest of the outfit plain and let the beads do the work.

Gina is the Hunza G bikini for crystals and beads, and it appears here four ways: beaded, and in three Swarovski versions that include a string tie and a triangle top. Each one is a small, light string style rather than a full-coverage set.

Cassie has a beaded bralette top, Tessa has studded straps, Julia carries an embellished ring and Monica is a skimpy embellished set. If you want one statement bikini for a holiday trip, I would start with a Gina in white or black, because the crystals are the whole point.

Gold hoops and ring details are one of the most recognizable Hunza G finishes on a bikini, and Julia is the style that wears them best. Here the Julia appears with gold hoops, a ring detail, a pearl hoop and a second gold hoop set.

Nadine comes with gold hoops and with tonal hoops, Iris has gold hoops, and Misty has tonal hoops in red. A tonal hoop is the quieter choice and a gold hoop reads as jewelry, so match it to the rest of your travel bag.

These eight bikinis are the everyday Hunza G sets, and each one is a different top shape in the same crinkle. Xandra has a square neck, Gigi is a bandeau, Gina is a triangle, Nadine has a high-waisted bottom and Phoebe has braided straps.

Iris is a bralette with small hardware, Julia has a ring at the center, and Jean is a bandeau. Because the fabric is stretchy, I choose the top shape I like and trust the fit to follow.

This group covers the rest of the main bikini names, and Angel is the one to look at for extra support. The brand's own site describes Angel as its option for comfort, support and a little more coverage, with an underband top and V-waist bottoms.

Misty has a ring at the center, Alicia has a bow-front bralette, Naomi has ruffle trim, Patricia has a square neck, Tessa has a V neck, Tina is a knotted bandeau and Carla is a plunge. If you are building a wardrobe of two or three bikinis, I would take one supportive style like Angel and one minimal style like Tina.

Tyler, Eva, Juno and Kacey are the less common Hunza G bikini names, and they show how far the brand goes beyond the best known sets. Tyler has contrast piping, Eva is a halter triangle, and Juno has a twist at the front.

Kacey is a gingham halter, Jean appears as a bandeau and with a bow, and the Phoebe has an underband top. The Shorty is a pull-on short-style bottom, which I would wear with any bikini top for a more covered look by the pool.

Hunza G also makes swimwear in textures other than crinkle, and the seersucker and knit styles show that range. Seersucker appears on the Nadine, the Jamie twist and a Square Neck swimsuit, and knit appears on the Gigi and the Melody.

Alicia, Angel and Xandra each come in a textured version of the bikini shape you already know. I would choose these when I want the same fit as the crinkle with a flatter, drier look, which suits a spa day as well as the water.

Print and trim are where Hunza G gets playful, and polka dot is the clearest example. Colette, Delphine and Zoe are all polka dot, and Delphine is reversible.

Eloise has ruffles on a strapless one-piece, Naomi has a ruffled bikini, and Katya, Tyra and Pamela use two-tone color blocking. For a first print I would take the Colette bikini in black and white, because the dots stay graphic against a tan.

Hunza G launched UPF swimwear in 2024, and Vogue reported that it took two years to get the feel and support right. The coverage styles are the practical side of the brand: more fabric and in some cases full sleeves.

Coverage appears on the Faye, the Square Neck, the Celine and the Pamela, while the Tyra rashguard and the Miley long-sleeve top give full arm coverage. The Misty set is listed with UV protection and chlorine resistance. If you swim laps or spend a long time in strong sun, this is the group I would shop first.

Hunza G cover-ups are mostly wraps and sarongs, which pack small and tie quickly. The Devyn comes checked and the Wrap Around Sarong is a plain tie.

The long and short UPF cover-ups, the sarong, the stretch-jersey pareo and the self-tie sarong all work over a one-piece, and the polka-dot sheer midi skirt turns a swimsuit into a lunch outfit. I would keep one sarong in the bag for every trip, since it takes up almost no room.

Hunza G dresses take the crinkle off the beach and into the evening, and the Sandy mini is the clearest example. It has a halter neckline with T-bar hardware in a short dress length.

The halterneck mini is pure crinkle, the strapless midi and the maxi dresses are hybrids that pair crinkle with a lighter fabric, and the Taylor and the tank swimming dress are the sportier options. The terry polo dress is the most casual. For a winter-sun dinner I would wear the Sandy mini with flat sandals.

Terry cloth is the comfort side of Hunza G ready-to-wear, and it covers everything you wear between the water and the room. The collection includes shorts, a polo, a zip-up hoodie, a pullover hoodie, a hooded poncho and two terry shirts.

The pieces are soft in pale pink, yellow and blue, and they match each other. I would wear the terry shorts and shirt as a set on a hotel terrace. The hooded poncho is the easiest layer for the pool deck once the sun goes down.

Hunza G has been building out ready-to-wear beyond the crinkle, as Vogue reported this year, and the seersucker and poplin shirts and shorts are part of that. The resort checked shirt, the oversized seersucker shirt and the gingham shirt all work over a swimsuit.

The shorts come in seersucker, ruffled poplin, polka dot and crinkle, and the striped poplin shirt is the sharpest of the group. I would pair a seersucker shirt with seersucker shorts for a matching set and add a one-piece underneath.

Hunza G and Burberry released a capsule in 2026 that puts Hunza G shapes in Original Crinkle with Burberry check trim, in white, tan and red. The Domino here is the swimsuit from that collaboration, sold with a matching scrunchie.

The accessories finish the picture: a terry tote, a bucket hat, four scrunchies and a pareo set with Swarovski crystals. A scrunchie is the lowest effort way to bring the brand into a bag, and the tote carries the wet things home.

Start with one Original Crinkle one-piece in a color you wear all the time, and the Pamela, Square Neck or Domino are the safest first choices. Add a bikini only once you know which top shape suits you, and keep a sarong in the bag for the walk back to the room. The fabric stretches in every direction, so size will not be the problem. Choose the color and the neckline you love and the rest takes care of itself.
