LELET NY Hair Accessories: What I'd Actually Wear

LELET NY Hair Accessories: What I'd Actually Wear

LELET NY is the New York label that grew from one hair accessory Sara Bieler Sasson made for her daughter. I love how much architecture she packs into a clip, a chain bandana and a pair of earrings.

How Sara Bieler Sasson shaped LELET NY

I like it when a design career begins with a small problem one person actually wants to solve. For Sara Bieler Sasson, that was a hair accessory for her daughter, Ayelet, and the little business that followed was named Lelet after her. Sasson trained in architecture at Parsons after an early love of art and color, worked in interior architecture, and launched the label in 2010. Jewelry came next, because clients kept asking for pieces that matched.

Her own story talks about form, proportion and material, which is architect language for why a clip can look so considered. Everything is designed and handmade in New York City, and you can feel the difference in a category that so easily turns disposable.

What I admire is how LELET NY gives an everyday gesture, putting your hair up or adding an earring, real design weight. It has gone from a daughter's hairpiece to sculptural hair pieces and jewelry, and it still feels personal.

A sculptural touch at the hair and waist

Hair accessories were the starting point, but this group can finish a whole outfit. The Chain Bandana and Chain Cap bring metal detail up toward the face, while the Bianka Metal Chain Belt gives the same idea a different place to land. I also like the Frankie Stone Claw Clip as a quieter way into the brand. I went deeper on a related idea in Hats & Hair Accessories.

Picture her in a plain black sweater, the Chain Bandana over loose hair and nothing else competing for attention. My rule is one focal point at a time: chain near the face or a belt at the waist, not both. If you want something softer, the Sheer Lace Bandana changes the mood without changing the outfit, and the Chain And Pearl Belt does the same at the waist.

Jewelry with an architectural line

The jewelry grows from the same love of proportion, with a little more weight. The Eden Mesh Choker and Rio Cuff Bracelet make a clean pair under an open collar, while the Brielle Knot Stone Drop Earrings pull the eye upward. The Freshwater Pearl Tassel Ear Cuff and Vega Stone Linear Earrings are for the days you want the face to do the talking.

I like that Sara's architectural background is present here without turning every piece into a hard geometric shape. What I would skip is layering all of it at once. Pick ears, neck or wrist, and let one piece lead.

A small object with a point of view

LELET NY began with a small personal need and grew into a design language, and you can still see that history. The pieces feel considered, but they never ask for a special occasion. A clip can make a weekday bun feel finished, and a pair of earrings can carry a simple outfit past the obvious. I would start with the category you wear most, then choose one shape you will still like once the event is over. Although the best accessory is probably just the one you keep reaching for.
