Maëlys Names Every Cream After the Body Part It Is Meant For

I went looking for the story behind Maëlys, the body-care brand that gives belly, arms, neck and thighs their own formulas. Twelve of its creams, oils and serums are laid out in order, from the daily routine to a travel-size set.

Maëlys is pronounced MAY-lees, and the name comes from the old Breton language, where it means princess. I like knowing that, because the rest of the brand is so practical. On its About page, Maëlys says it began with gaps in body care around big life changes, and that its female-led development team designs formulas around how skin looks and feels through them. It calls the method Biology-First Skin Response Science, and it says every formula goes through independent lab testing with trained professionals, plus consumer feedback on texture and scent. Those are the brand's claims, so I pass them along as claims. What I can tell you is how it is built: each product has its job in the name, a texture chosen on purpose, and often a gentle warming sensation that tells you where you have applied it. The first grid is the daily part of a body care routine. There is the B-Flat belly cream, whose brand directions are to smooth on a generous layer and massage in circles until absorbed, then a booty mask, an overnight whip and a glossy serum. Lay them out in the order you would really use them.

Twelve boxes on a pale grey page, one for each product in this edit, each with its brand and name printed below: Maëlys B-Flat Belly Firming Cream, Maëlys B-Tight Lift & Firm Booty Mask, Maëlys Get-Dreamy Overnight Toning Body Whip, Maëlys B-Glossy Smoothing Body Serum, Maëlys B-Flex Lift & Firm Arm Cream, Maëlys B-Poised Neck & Décolleté Firming Cream, Maëlys B-Bold Booty Plumping Cream, Maëlys B-Foxy Inner Thigh Firming Cream, Maëlys Get-Cheeky Enriched Cellulite Oil, Maëlys Get-Sprung Enriched Stretch Mark Oil, Maëlys Re-Lure Tight & Tone Body Serum and Maëlys Mini Icons Cult-Classic Travel Bundle.
Maëlys

Arms, neck, booty and thighs

The second grid is where Maëlys gets specific, and I mean that kindly. There is an arm cream with red algae and kangaroo flower, a neck and décolleté cream with Brazilian peppertree and kangaroo flower, a booty cream, and an inner thigh cream with microalgae and tapioca starch. That last ingredient is my favorite small detail: the brand says the starch is there to absorb moisture in the chafing zone, which tells me somebody thought about a warm afternoon in a skirt. I treat them as texture products first and judge them by how they feel on skin. My tip is to give the neck cream the same attention you give a face serum, because neck skin is thin and easy to forget. Try the warming formulas on a small area before you use them everywhere.

Four targeted creams

Two oils, a serum and a habit to skip

Grid three is oils, a serum and a set, and it is the most ritual of the lot. Get-Cheeky and Get-Sprung are enriched body oils, and Re-Lure is a light serum with hyaluronic acid and chlorella. I would give either oil a few weeks of steady use before deciding how I feel about it. What I would skip is stacking the oil, the serum and a cream in one sitting and hoping for a quicker answer. Skin does not absorb five layers at once, and you will not know which one you like. Pick one product for each area, use it consistently for a few weeks, and only then add a second. Oils go on best right after a shower, while skin is still slightly damp.

Start small, then decide

I keep coming back to the last product in the edit, the mini bundle of six travel sizes. It is the sensible way into Maëlys, because you can find out which textures you enjoy before committing to a full routine. Some people like the warming creams, some prefer a plain glossy serum, and a small size lets you find out. Keep them by the sink, use the same ones for a month, and be honest with yourself about what you actually reach for. The best body care is the kind you use on a tired Tuesday night. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Get Dreamy Cream, MAËLYS and the Overnight Body Whip and L'Oréal Midnight Cream.
