What makes Mario Dedivanovic's makeup artistry recognizable

Mario Dedivanovic's work starts with soft sculpting, balance and a close eye for the face's natural structure. Born and raised in the Bronx to Albanian parents from Montenegro, he began at Sephora and was doing makeup for a cabaret at 17.

 

His 2008 meeting with Kim Kardashian on a Social Life cover shoot became a defining partnership. Vogue Portugal credits him with popularizing contouring, and I love how that sculpted effect still reads as skin first.

How Mario turns artistry into education and products

Education runs through his brand story. Mario founded The Master Class in 2009 with 16 students, and the official biography says more than 30,000 students have attended, with some classes reaching more than 2,000.

 

MAKEUP BY MARIO launched on October 1, 2020. He told Allure he was involved in every aspect of the business and self-funded the brand at its beginning, bringing his master-class choices into palettes, liners and highlighters.
