Meeting the Family

Meeting the Family

A women's edit for meeting a partner's family: soft knits, dark denim and a coat that looks put together. Polite and modest, but still stylish.

Meeting someone's family is the one outfit I overthink, so I keep the rules simple. I want something soft, polished and comfortable enough to sit through a long dinner. A good sweater and a pair of dark jeans solve most of it, and bootcuts from 7 For All Mankind and Pistola look dressed up without trying too hard.

For knits, I like a cashmere crewneck from ANINE BING or LISA YANG in a quiet color, and Veronica Beard's heather grey pullover is the one I would pack. J.Crew's Chiara topcoat covers a cold walk to the door, and English Factory's cardigan adds a little polish on top of denim. Leave the loudest pieces at home and let the fit do the talking.
