Merino Knit

Merino Knit

Merino crews and quarter zips in muted, minimal tones. Made for guys who want a few good sweaters that work with everything in the closet.

Merino is the knit I trust most, because it is warm without being heavy and it looks the same in March as it does in November. I keep my picks in muted tones like navy, olive, brown and gray, so every sweater goes with every pair of pants. Officine Generale's Nina is the crew I would start with, plain and a little fine, and the Alex Mill boxy crew in olive is the one for a looser fit.

When I want a bit more shape, I go for the Polo Ralph Lauren quarter zip in brown or the Fedeli one in navy, both of which sit well under a coat. Taylor Stitch's coal stripe is the pattern I would allow myself, and McTavish and Frescobol Carioca make crews with real texture in the weave. Wear them with chinos, dark denim or gray flannel and leave the logos at home.
