Navy Tops, Jeans and Layers

Navy Tops, Jeans and Layers

A navy edit of tops, dark jeans and soft layers that stands in for black. It is for anyone who wants an everyday color that looks a little richer.

Navy is the color I reach for when black feels too harsh and I still want everything to match. It softens a whole outfit, and it makes denim look richer. I like starting with a navy top you can wear on repeat, like the Edikted Angeline V neck tank or Frank & Eileen's Patrick popover, then building down from there. I went deeper on a related idea in Clean Unclean: Lived-In Denim, Undone Layers and Easy Tops.

For the bottom half, dark jeans do most of the work. DL1961's Karmine wide leg flares just enough, and Still Here's canvas pair is a deeper, stiffer navy that looks sharp with a plain white tee. For layers I wear the Splendid crewneck sweater over a collared shirt, or the PAIGE Marin top under a blazer. Donald Pliner's navy pumps finish the look when black shoes would feel too heavy. If you want to keep going, CLYQUE Tops: A Shopper's Guide to Easy Layers is the one I would read next.
