OGX shampoo comes in a bottle for almost every hair type, from coconut milk for dry hair to rosemary mint for oily roots. Here are eight shampoos, plus the conditioners, mask, oils and serum that go with them.
OGX Shampoo, and Why It Used to Be Called Organix

Before It Was OGX
Before it was OGX, it was Organix. Todd Christopher, a former hairdresser, founded Vogue International in 1987, and it took him close to two decades and more than a dozen brands to find his hit. He released Organix in 2006, according to Forbes.
In 2011 the Center for Environmental Health sued, saying the name made shoppers think the products were organic. Christopher settled and renamed the line OGX in 2013, and he told Forbes it was a very tough two years. In July 2016 Johnson & Johnson bought Vogue International, OGX included, for $3.3 billion in cash.
What stayed the same through all of it is the idea: a round bottle, a gold cap, one ingredient named on the front, and a scent you can smell from the next room. OGX shampoo is sold by hair problem, so the fastest way to shop it is to name yours first. Dry, flat, oily, brassy, damaged, or a scalp that needs a scrub.
The first grid is eight shampoos, one for each of those. The second grid is what goes with them: conditioners, a one-minute mask, two oils and a sealing serum.
A tip from every hairdresser I have ever asked: shampoo is for your scalp, conditioner is for your ends. Lather at the roots, let the suds rinse through the lengths, and do not scrub your ends at all.
Eight Shampoos, Eight Hair Problems
OGX puts the answer right on the label, so here is the short version of each.
For dry hair, Nourishing + Coconut Milk is the classic, made to hydrate and restore. Renewing + Argan Oil of Morocco is the one for dry, damaged hair, and it is the bottle most people picture when they think of the brand. If yours is very dry, the Hydrate + Repair Argan Oil Extra Strength goes further and is free from parabens and sulfated surfactants.
For fine or flat hair, Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen promises 72 hours of volume and body. For hair that has been bleached or heat styled a lot, Bond Protein Repair is a lighter formula that OGX says supports hair's protein and lipid barrier.
For blondes and silver hair, Blonde Enhance + Purple Toning cancels brassy tones. Use it once or twice a week, not every wash, or blonde can start to look lilac.
For oily roots and buildup, Clarifying Strength + Rosemary Mint uses rosemary oil and peppermint extract, and it feels cold and clean. ProGrowth + Peptide is an exfoliating scalp shampoo with 1.5% mandelic acid to lift buildup.
What I would skip: the Rosemary Mint every day if your ends are dry. Clarifying shampoos are for once a week, and your lengths will feel the difference.

Conditioners, a Mask and Oils
This is the half of the routine people skip, and it is the half that makes hair look good.
Three conditioners match the shampoos: Renewing + Argan Oil, Nourishing + Coconut Milk and Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen. Match the conditioner to the shampoo if you can, since OGX builds them to work together. The Bond Protein Repair Lightweight Conditioner is the pick for damaged hair that still needs to feel light.
The Bond Protein Repair Treatment Mask is a one-minute treatment, which is the only kind of mask I actually use. Put it on after shampoo, do the rest of your shower, rinse.
Then the finishing steps. The Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil is for all hair types, and the brand says it seals in shine and leaves hair silky. The Coconut Miracle Oil is richer and made for medium to coarse hair, to calm frizz and flyaways. The Bond Protein Repair Sealing Serum is a smoothing serum for dry, damaged ends.
My rule with oils is two drops, warmed between your palms, pressed into the ends of damp hair. Never the roots.
What I would skip: the Coconut Miracle Oil on fine hair. It is made for coarse textures, and on fine hair it can look greasy by noon, so use the argan oil instead.

Name Your Hair Problem First
I think the smartest way to shop OGX shampoo is to ignore the scent and read the second line on the bottle. That line tells you which hair it is for. Pick one shampoo for your everyday problem and one clarifying bottle for once a week, then add a matching conditioner and a few drops of oil. Christopher spent almost twenty years looking for the right formula. You only need about two minutes in the aisle.
