P.E Nation Sports Bras: What I'd Actually Buy

P.E Nation Sports Bras: What I'd Actually Buy

P.E Nation is the Sydney activewear label Pip Edwards and Claire Greaves started in 2016, mixing sport and street with a fashion-first eye. I like clothes that keep their point of view after the workout, so this edit is about the sports bras, leggings and one trouser I would start with.

Two friends and a better gym bag

I like it when athletic clothes have a point of view beyond the gym, and P.E Nation has one. Pip Edwards and Claire Greaves started it in Sydney in 2016, after meeting while working in fashion. Edwards came to the industry after studying commerce and law and working in a corporate role, then learned the trade at Ksubi, sass & bide and General Pants. Greaves studied fashion and textiles, designed at Topshop in London and launched her own label, Maise, before the two joined forces.

The clothes make sense in that context: sport and streetwear filtered through a fashion lens, with strong color and shapes that earn their keep. The first H&M collaboration in 2020 took that language to a global audience. I find the design idea easy to spot, which is clothes that move from a training session into the rest of the day without changing character.

Sports bras that belong in the outfit

One thing P.E Nation understands is that a sports bra can be part of the outfit rather than hidden under it. The Lumify Sports Bra in marine blue and the Paramount Sports Bra in Alaskan blue and black have a crisp, color-blocked feel, and the Spectrum Sports Bra in cherry and strawberry brings a warmer accent. The Paramount Tank Top and the Beyond Tank Top are easy layers, while the Radar Halter Tank Top changes the neckline.

In my fashion dreams, she wears the Lumify Sports Bra under an open shirt on the way to coffee, then keeps it on for a low-key class. I would pick one color story and keep the bottom half simple. What I would skip is choosing by color alone for a high-impact workout, since the product names do not tell you which bra suits it. I went deeper on a related idea in Sports Bras For Every Workout.

Leggings and a trouser for a change of pace

With the leggings, color is the first styling choice for me. The Radar Full Length Legging comes in black and Alaskan blue, the Reflect Full Length Legging in marine blue, and the Clarity Legging in dark plum, bittersweet and soft pink. The Fold Over Legging changes the waistband line, while the Vita Full Length Legging in coffee and whisper white takes a quieter route. The Balance Pant in dark navy pinstripe moves the outfit away from close-fitting activewear toward a relaxed trouser.

Picture her leaving a class in the Balance Pant and a clean tank, then reaching for the Radar Full Length Legging when she wants a closer fit. My tip is to choose the shoes before the hem, so a full-length legging sits cleanly over the sneaker you actually wear.

Sport is only one part of the day

P.E Nation never asks sport to stay in one room, which is why this edit holds together for me. A color-blocked bra, full-length leggings and a pinstripe pant are separate moves, but they share the same fast, lived-in energy. I would wear the more technical styles for a workout, then carry the same palette into the rest of the day with a tank or an easy layer, although the pinstripe pant may never see a gym. If you want to keep going, Workout Wear: Splits59 Leggings, Sports Bras and Skorts is the one I would read next.
