Peach & Lily and the Real Story Behind Glass Skin

Peach & Lily and the Real Story Behind Glass Skin

Peach & Lily Glass Skin is Alicia Yoon's Korean-inspired line for sensitive skin, led by the Glass Skin Refining Serum. I go through a dozen formulas, from barrier creams to cleansers and a dewy routine.

Alicia Yoon is a licensed esthetician with eczema-prone, sensitive skin, and her research into formulas began when her pregnant sister asked for products that were pregnancy-safe but still felt and smelled pleasant. Peach & Lily's own skincare line went live in July 2018, built with chemists, researchers and cell biologists to be gentle on sensitive skin. Glass skin refers to a Korean ideal of smooth, translucent, poreless-looking skin, and the team had been working on its serum since 2015 before naming it after the idea; it became popular enough that Yoon wrote a free e-book on the subject in 2021. The Glass Skin Refining Serum combines peach extract, niacinamide, mountain yam, madecassoside, peptides and three weights of hyaluronic acid. The water-gel moisturizer, the veil mist and the face polisher build out the same line, and together they aim for a dewy, even finish rather than anything dramatic. What I respect is the patience: years of testing on sensitive skin before a single serum carried the name that made the brand famous.

Peach & Lily

Barrier care

The Rescue Party pair is for skin that feels tight or reactive, a comfort cream and a restore serum made for a stressed barrier. Matcha Pudding is an antioxidant cream, and Wild Dew is a treatment essence that goes on after cleansing. This middle row is the part of Peach & Lily I think gets overlooked, because the Glass Skin bottles get the attention. For sensitive skin, these are the calmer place to start. Pat the essence in with your palms, then seal it with a cream so the water does not just evaporate from your skin.

Barrier care, a cream and an essence

Cleansers and treatments, and the skip

Ginger Melt is an oil cleanser for sunscreen and makeup, and Power Calm is a hydrating gel cleanser for the second step or for mornings. The Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask is the weekly exfoliating step, and Retinal For All is a renewing serum using retinal, a faster-acting cousin of retinol. What I would skip is using the resurfacing mask, the polisher and the retinal in the same week at first. Start one, then add another after two weeks. Retinal can dry skin, so use it at night, twice a week at first, and wear sunscreen daily. If you are pregnant, skip retinoids and ask your doctor.

A dewy routine

Morning: gel cleanser, serum, water-gel moisturizer, sunscreen. Night: oil cleanser, gel cleanser, essence, then a cream. Mist over makeup midday if you like the glow. Keep exfoliation to once or twice a week. Dewy skin comes from hydration and a healthy barrier, not from more steps. If your skin feels tight by noon, add moisture before you add anything active. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Peach Blush That Looks Like Sun on Skin and Glass Nails, the Korean-Rooted Finish That Looks Like Wet Jelly.
