Why Rae Morris makeup brushes begin with Jishaku

Rae Morris makeup brushes are the heart of her own line, led by the Jishaku range, whose magnetic handles let brushes stand upright on compatible surfaces. Morris is a four-time Australian Makeup Artist of the Year and served as L’Oréal Paris Makeup Director from 2003 to 2013; her work appears in editorial covers and features for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and I.D. Magazine.

Her first book, Makeup: The Ultimate Guide, was released in 2008, and the sixth, Rae Morris Makeup Masterclass, followed in 2016. She conceived her magnetic brush range in 2010 and launched it in 2012, making the core collection a natural place to start. As fall moves toward winter, I would begin with the complexion brushes that show the range of shapes she built for base work.

The eye brushes are where the numbering becomes useful: #5 Flawless Shader and #7 Deluxe Point Shader lay down shadow, while #6 Deluxe Pro Blender and #6.5 Angle Eye Blender soften the edge. Smaller shapes such as #8.5 Creme Shadow Shader and #9.1 Pencil Point Shader suit more targeted placement.

For liner and brows, the range includes a Perfect Eyeliner, a Precision Bent-Liner and two brow brushes, including a travel version of #16.5. Rae describes the magnetic system as practical for storage and for drying brushes upside down, so its stand-and-store design follows through after application.

Where I would start with Rae Morris makeup brushes

Start with the #23 Liquid Foundation Brush, then add the #6.5 Angle Eye Blender Brush. Together they make a practical base and a soft, versatile eye. The rest of the line makes more sense once you know how those shapes work.
