Raw Cut

Raw Cut

Raw indigo jeans, selvage denim and denim shirts with texture left in on purpose. It is for men who like clean outfits with one detail that looks made.

Raw cut is the idea that denim looks best when it still looks like denim: dark indigo, a clean selvage edge, a collar that has not been pressed flat. I like it for men who dress simply and want one detail that shows somebody made the thing. Start with the jeans, because the wash does most of the work.

Nudie Jeans' Rad Rufus in indigo and AG Jeans' Felix selvage are the ones I would reach for, and Todd Snyder's Vintage Knee has a worn-in fade that looks lived in without trying. Then add one shirt. AMI's raw indigo denim shirt and Carhartt WIP's Lucas both look sharp over a plain white tee, and FRAME's relaxed shacket works as a light jacket. Keep the rest clean, like white sneakers and a crisp tee, so the texture looks deliberate.
