Sabrina Carpenter Perfume Started With Sweet Tooth and a Chocolate-Bar Bottle

Sabrina Carpenter perfume began in September 2022 with Sweet Tooth, a marshmallow-and-chocolate scent that landed as a Fragrance of the Year finalist. Here are her five bottles, the caramel and candy scents from other houses, and body mists for the same sweet lane.

Sweet Tooth is where it all started. Sabrina Carpenter released her debut fragrance in September 2022, made with Scent Beauty, and it was a finalist for Fragrance of the Year at the Fragrance Foundation Awards. That is no small thing for a first bottle. The perfumer was Gil Clavien, and the scent goes from marshmallow, chocolate, candied ginger and bergamot at the top, through Madagascar vanilla, coconut milk and jasmine, down to whipped cream, sugar, musk and cashmere wood. The full-size bottle is modeled on a chocolate bar, in faceted glass with tones of pink and rose gold, which makes it look like a joke and a keepsake at once.

I like that Sabrina Carpenter perfume has a sense of humor. The names alone, Sweet Tooth, Cherry Baby, Me Espresso and Lemon Pie, read like a menu, and the scents follow through. Sweet Tooth is the marshmallow one. Cherry Baby is the fruit one, cherry and chocolate. Me Espresso adds coffee to the mix, a good afternoon pick. Lemon Pie is lemon with vanilla and a graham cracker base, and it is the one to wear on warm days. Caramel Dream is caramelized amber with almond and a little citrus, less sugary than the name suggests.

Start with Sweet Tooth if you want the original idea, and start with Lemon Pie if you think you do not like gourmands. Then move on from there.

One more thing about the collection: they are easy to share. A bottle like Cherry Baby is fun to hand to a friend, and the whole set reads like a small dessert tray you can dip into depending on your mood.

Caramel, candy and a little bit of rum

If the five bottles above make you want more, this is the group I would add. They share the caramel, candy and vanilla mood, but each pushes it in a slightly different direction.

Prada's Candy Eau de Parfum with Caramel and White Musk is the most polished of the sweet ones, and the musk keeps it from becoming syrup. KAYALI's Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar is bright and sugary, more sparkle than cream. Yves Saint Laurent's Black Opium Over Red with Cherry and Coffee is a night-out bottle, dark and glossy. Maison Margiela's Replica Jazz Club, an Eau de Toilette with tobacco leaf, pink pepper and rum, is the odd one out, a smoky, boozy scent that smells like a room rather than a dessert. Summer Fridays' Sunlit Vanilla with Vanilla and Caramel is soft and warm, close to skin. NEST New York's Cardamom Latte with Jasmine and Coconut is spiced and creamy, the one I would choose on a rainy morning.

The trick with any candy scent is contrast. A sweet spray looks better against a spicy or smoky one, and the two together make something that smells complicated and on purpose. Try Prada's Candy on one wrist and Margiela's Jazz Club on the other, and see which one you keep sniffing.

Spray from about a hand's length away, so the scent lands as a soft cloud and not a wet patch.

Body mists in the same lane

A body mist is the lightest way to wear sugar. It fades sooner than a perfume, and that is exactly the point: you can spray it on your hair after the gym, on a scarf, or on sheets, and nobody around you is overwhelmed.

Sol de Janeiro's Cheirosa 62 Bum Bum Hair and Body Refillable Perfume Mist is the famous one, warm, creamy and instantly recognizable on a beach bag. OUAI's Ibiza Hair and Body Mist with Tonka Bean and Vanilla is the softer, warmer one. Maison Louis Marie's Fleur de Vanille is a simple vanilla with flowers. Josie Maran's Golden Hour Body and Hair Fragrance Mist with 100 percent Natural Scents keeps it simple. PHLUR's Cashmere Skin is a soft skin scent, and Fenty Beauty's The Mista is a soft, easy one. Rare Beauty's Find Comfort mist with Niacinamide is a comforting spritz for after a shower, and LoveShackFancy's Vanilla Twirl is pretty and light.

What I would skip: spraying a mist straight into your face or eyes, and putting it on skin that is freshly shaved or irritated, where any scent can sting. Spray at arm's length, on clothes and hair, and let it settle.

Reapply through the day, since a mist is lighter than a parfum and fades sooner.

Making a sweet scent last

Sweet scents last longer on moisturized skin, so I start with an unscented lotion, then a spray of perfume on the chest, then a mist on hair and clothes later in the day. Three layers in a day is plenty.

Keep your bottles in a drawer, not on a sunny shelf, and try a new scent for a full day before you decide about it. If you find it too sugary at noon, that is useful information, and a lighter bottle might suit you better.

I also like to keep one sweet bottle for going out and one mist for the desk drawer. That way the gourmand feels like an occasion instead of a habit, and I never reach the point where my own perfume stops registering. If you stop noticing it, ask a friend to tell you honestly how much they can smell, and adjust from there. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Chocolate Bar Perfume and Good Girl Perfume and the Stiletto Bottle That Made Bad Manners Smell Sweet.
