Shades of Grey

A tonal study of the new wave of light and dark grey denim, from silvery wide legs to charcoal barrels. Made for anyone ready to swap their blue jeans for something softer.

Grey denim is having a quiet moment, and I like it more than blue right now. It sits between black and washed out, so it goes with whatever is already in my closet: white tees, cream knits, brown loafers.

 

For a soft start I would try the pale Nili Lotan Terese or the Baum und Pferdgarten Nara, both so light they almost read as silver. If you want a shape with some personality, the Everlane Loose Curve, the Veronica Beard Ryder barrel and the Mother Lemon Twist show how far grey can go. For something darker, the DL1961 Miro barrel in ash and the LE JEAN utility pair are the ones I would wear all winter. Look at the wash in daylight before you commit, because grey leans green or brown more than you expect.
