SIR. Dresses: Silk Minis, Gowns and the Bondi Label Story

SIR. Dresses: Silk Minis, Gowns and the Bondi Label Story

SIR. dresses come from a label Nikki Campbell and Sophie Coote started in Bondi in 2014. I go through the silk minis, gowns and maxis, then skirts, shirting and swim.

Collage of runway looks, campaign shots and street style outfits that capture the SIR. mood

Dresses

SIR.'s dresses still carry the trans-seasonal logic the label was built on, easy enough for a warm climate but not so casual they can't travel. Campbell and Coote have said they design mainly for gaps in their own wardrobes, which is a very literal explanation for why these read more like personal favorites than trend pieces. That instinct is on full display here.

Skirts

Skirts lean on the same minimal, feminine silhouette SIR. established with its earliest linen pieces back in 2014. The founders were 24 when they started the label out of a shared house in Bondi, designing what they felt was missing from the market rather than chasing a specific runway idea. This group keeps that same restrained shape language going.

Tops and shirting

Shirting is close to where SIR. began, since its first release was a linen capsule that sold out almost immediately after launching on Instagram alone. That original directness, a small collection with a clear point of view, still shows up in how uncomplicated these pieces are. Nothing here is trying to reinvent the shirt, just refine it.

Swim

Swim came later, added to the range in 2020 as SIR. expanded beyond its original ready-to-wear focus. It fits naturally with a brand whose founders describe their aesthetic as built around an idea of everlasting summer. These pieces read as an extension of the label's resort sensibility rather than a separate category bolted on.

A quiet trio of fluid silhouettes

A decade on from that first Bondi capsule, SIR. is stocked well beyond Instagram, in stores from Sydney to Harrods and Galeries Lafayette, but the assortment still favors the same minimal wardrobe essentials Campbell and Coote set out to make. This stretch of the edit is the rest of the current range, still working that same trans-seasonal idea. It's a useful place to see the label's full breadth in one pass.

The founders' first instincts

SIR.'s appeal is that it never overcomplicated its pitch: two designers filling gaps in their own closets, with a name that literally spells out the categories they cover. Ten years in, the label is at its best in exactly those founding categories, easy linen separates and dresses, rather than wherever it's stretching newest. This edit is a fair representation of that consistency. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together The SIR. Dresses Edit and Shopping SIR..
