Sisley Paris was founded in 1976 by Hubert d'Ornano and his wife Isabelle, and the family history behind it matters. Hubert had already built a cosmetics business with his father and brother, and his earlier ventures included the perfume company Jean d'Albret in 1946 and the skincare brand Orlane in 1953. The new house rested on phytocosmetology, the pairing of plant power and cosmetic science. The first skincare and makeup range arrived in 1977 along with the first perfume, Eau de Campagne, and Ecological Compound followed in 1980 and became the bestseller. That lineage is easy to follow in this group. The Sisleÿa L'Integral Anti-Age cream, the fresh gel cream and the eye and lip contour cream sit in one family, and the Supremÿa anti-aging cream and La Lotion sit in another. Black Rose has the cream mask, the radiant youth serum and the skin infusion cream. For daily steps, the Lyslait cleansing milk and the Eau Efficace make-up remover are the gentle starts, and Sunleÿa SPF 30+ ends the morning. The makeup arrived in the very first range in 1977, so this is not a side project. The L'Orchidee blush, the Phyto-Twist topcoat highlighter and the Phyto-Cernes Éclat eye concealer are the face pieces, with the Phyto-Teint loose powder to set them. For lips there are three options: the Phyto-Rouge Shine hydrating lipstick in Sheer Raspberry, the Phyto-Rouge Velvet lipstick and the limited edition Le Phyto Gloss in Blooming Peony. The Phyto-Eye eyeshadow palette and the Phyto-Noir mascara cover the eyes, and the Black Rose eye contour fluid sits between skincare and makeup. The powder brush and the gentle face and neck brush are the tools. A simple pairing: choose either a strong lip or a strong eye, and let the blush and concealer stay soft. What I would skip is stacking the Velvet lipstick with a shimmering gloss over the top in the same hour, since the finishes fight each other. Fragrance goes back to the start, since Eau de Campagne was the very first perfume in 1977. Here it appears as an eau de toilette and a deodorant spray, next to the L'Eau Rêvée d'Hubert eau de toilette, which carries the founder's name, and Eau du Soir in a limited edition by Marie-Victoire de Bascher. The Hair Rituel range gets its own corner, with the La Crème 230 restorative and thermo-protective cream, the protective hair fluid, the revitalizing fortifying hair serum duo, a hairbrush and So Curl. The rest is the makeup shelf: the Phyto-Eye twist pencil, the Phyto-Khol eye pencil, the Phyto-Twist topcoat in 100 Shimmer, Le Sculpteur intensive contouring care, the Phytobuste and Decollete and the Supremya Prestige Vanity. Philippe d'Ornano became President in 2013, and Isabelle still oversees product creation. In practice, I would pick one category, either a Black Rose cream with a bath oil, or a Phyto-Rouge lipstick with a single perfume, and enjoy it slowly.
