A slouchy off-the-shoulder top is the one I wear when I want to look put together without trying. It sits low on one shoulder, skims the waist and makes even the plainest jeans look like an outfit.

 

I reach for the long sleeve ones first, like the white Bobi asymmetrical top or the draped NICHOLAS Arlina in black, with high-waisted trousers. L'Academie's Marianna top is the soft white one I would wear with a long skirt, and Free People's Bali Daydream has the loose, peasant shape for warm days. If you want a little drama, the SIMKHAI Lavina in red looks great with dark denim. Look for fabric that drapes rather than clings, so the neckline stays where you put it.
