Tarte lip gloss is built around maracuja, the passion fruit oil the brand puts in almost everything it makes. Here is the juicy lip lineup shade by shade, plus the hydrating glosses and soft liners that sit well beside it.
Tarte Lip Gloss and the Maracuja Juicy Lip Lineup

Tarte began in 1999, when Maureen Kelly left a career in marketing to make her own makeup, and its very first product was a cheek stain. A year later the brand was on the shelves at Henri Bendel in New York, and it has grown into one of the biggest names in American makeup since. The thread through all of it is maracuja, the oil pressed from passion fruit seeds, which shows up in the skincare, the concealer and, most of all, the lips.
This first row is the tarte lip gloss family, and it is bigger than people think. The maracuja juicy lip plumping gloss comes in Rosy Mauve, a shimmery glass finish, and Cherry Blossom, a pale pink for every day. The high-shine vinyl gloss in Sheer Petal is the wettest-looking of the lot, and the Maracuja Juicy Lip Vinyl in Shimmering Coconut adds a soft shimmer. The hydrating balm gloss is the one I would keep in a coat pocket, in Hibiscus, a mauve berry, or Coconut, a brown nude that suits almost anyone. The Juicy Lip Gloss With Charms in Pink Lemonade is the fun one, and the plumping oil in shimmering mulberry is the richest color here.
A quick way to choose: balm gloss if your lips get dry, plumping gloss if you like a little tingle, vinyl if you want the most shine.

Hydrating glosses from other brands
Tarte is not the only brand making glosses that feel like lip care, and a few others do it especially well. These are the ones I would put next to a maracuja gloss when you want a change of texture or finish.
Lancôme Lip Idôle JuicyTreat is made with squalane and has a cushiony feel. Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Lips in Juicylicious Coconut Water is a clear, mirror-shine lip oil with hyaluronic acid. MAC Lipglass Air is a lighter take on the classic Lipglass, so it is less sticky. Givenchy Perfecto in Iridescent Gold is a limited-edition golden shimmer, the one for a holiday party. goop beauty Hydra-Barrier Gel Gloss in Spice is a warm, sheer color. Sarah Creal No Further Questions in Adulting was made with mature lips in mind, and it pairs gloss with a treatment formula. Tower 28 ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly in Sesame is soft and milky, and ILIA Overglaze in Crystalline is a clear gloss that sits well over lipstick.
Pairing tip: layer a clear gloss over a tinted balm gloss for the juiciest look, then blot the center once. It keeps the shine from looking greasy.
What I would skip: gloss over dry, flaky lips. It sits in every line. Use a balm gloss for a day or two first, then go back to shine.

Liners to wear under gloss
Gloss looks best with a soft outline underneath. A liner stops it from traveling past your lip line and gives the color something to hold on to.
Tarte makes three here. The maracuja juicy lip liner comes in Blush Pink and Nude, with hyaluronic acid for comfort, and the juicy lip plump liner in Honey adds peptides and a cooling feel. MAC Lipglazer in Whirlin' is a shiny dirty rose that you can wear on its own. Kosas Hotliner in Infinite is a warm pinky brown that softly contours. Rare Beauty Kind Words in Lovely is a creamy, waterproof warm mauve. Glossier Lip Line in Bit is a warm mauve pencil you can sharpen. Westman Atelier Lip Shape in COUCOU was inspired by Gucci Westman's own technique of lining just along the natural edge to enhance what you already have.
How to use them: line, then fill in the whole lip lightly with the same pencil before adding gloss. The gloss lasts longer and fades more evenly.
What I would skip: a liner that is much darker than the gloss you plan to wear. Under a sheer gloss, a dark liner shows as a ring. Keep it within a shade of your lips.

How I would build the look
If you are starting from scratch, pick one tarte lip gloss from the first row based on how dry your lips get, then add a liner within a shade of your natural color. That is the whole routine. Add a clear gloss from the middle row if you want more shine for evenings. Keep the balm gloss in your coat so you can reapply without a mirror, and use the plumping gloss when you want your lips to look a little fuller for photos or a night out. It is a simple lineup that works on almost everyone.
