The Best Bag Charms

The tiny accessory doing the most this season

The Best Bag Charms

The best bag charms are small accessories, like Cult Gaia's grape charm or the Coach New York motif chain, that change the mood of an everyday tote. This edit spans several of the big houses.

I went through the best designer bag charms for a small accessory that can change the mood of an everyday tote, from a grape-shaped charm to a New York motif chain. Coach, Jacquemus, Saint Laurent, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, and JW Anderson offer plenty of personality, whether you prefer leather, metal, or a little color.

JW Anderson's crocheted vegetables are the ones I would hang on a plain canvas tote first. The rhubarb, the persimmon and the cauliflower read as a joke you are in on, and there is a tiny crocheted House Cardigan too.

Charms from the big houses

Burberry, Loewe, Gucci and Saint Laurent each have a charm worth hanging on a plain bag. One good charm does more than three small ones.

Loewe has the deepest bench here: a peeling orange, an apple, a bee, a hedgehog, a shell, and two pieces from its Paula's Ibiza line, the strawberry and the hoopoe bird. That line grew out of Jonathan Anderson's collaboration with Paula's, the boutique Armin Heinemann opened in Ibiza's old town in 1972, and the charms carry the same sense of play.

Chloé's Mini Paddington shrinks the padlock bag Phoebe Philo launched in spring 2005, which the house calls the first It bag, down to something you can clip to a strap. Saint Laurent's cherry cluster and orange slice, plus McQueen's woven horn keychain, round out the group. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Mirumi Bag Charm and Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Dupe.
