The Row Spring 2027: American Perfectionism at Its Best

The Row Spring 2027: American Perfectionism at Its Best

The Row paired fragile antique linens and Victorian lace with the most immaculately cut trousers in fashion. Trousers appear in most looks, and I think that calm, unshowy contrast is the whole point.

Meditating on a tablecloth

Every Row presentation puts me in a meditative state, and this one did it with old tablecloth linens, doilies and fragments of Victorian lace, gently tied and draped as tops, scarves and stoles. It looked like something you might find in a flea market and then simply knot over your shoulders.

Then there are the trousers, which I think are the real argument. They appear in most looks, and they are cut so cleanly that everything fragile on top feels intentional. One narrow black pair had a rose-embroidered tapestry ribbon threaded through the belt loops, worn with a plain gray marl tank and three slim beaded necklaces. That is the whole idea of the show in one outfit.

So let's start where the show does, with the pants.

The Row Spring 2027 runway: five colors counted from every look

Still the raincoat house

Reassuringly, nothing has changed on outerwear. The airy raincoats and narrow pantsuits are all still there, and a jacket or coat shows up in about one in five looks. It is not a loud number, and I find that comforting.

Most luxury houses throw away what works every time a new season arrives. The Row does the opposite, and I admire how little it cares about being talked about. Women designers seem to understand that stability is its own kind of luxury, and I agree completely.

A suede coat or an oversized cashmere and wool one is exactly what I would reach for here. It is quiet, it is calm, and it makes a plain tank look like a decision.

Coats and jackets

Lace and almost no bags

The lace is the surprise. Roughly a quarter of the looks carry it, and it is not embroidered or printed, just antique pieces layered on, which keeps the palette muted and the shapes simple. It is a clever answer to a style that so many other brands now copy.

What I noticed even more is the bags. Only a few looks carry one, so the clothes do the talking and nothing is there to show off. I like that restraint. If you want one anyway, a suede or leather tote suits this mood perfectly.

The lace things will be sold in small quantities, which makes me want to try the idea at home with a tablecloth of my own.

Not trying too hard

The part I keep replaying is the permission. In a shouty, over-complicated fashion world, this collection says it is fine not to be overdone, and to simply keep the things you like. Two shift dresses had raw edges, as if someone had cut them out on a kitchen table and sewn up a few stitches.

That handmade feeling is the opposite of showing off, and somehow it reads as confidence. A handful of looks were all black, which fits.

I would wear the wide-leg pants every day and drape something old and delicate over them. It is American perfectionism at its best, and it is also the easiest idea to steal.
