A slingback is the shoe I reach for when I want to look dressed without feeling dressed up. The open heel and thin strap keep it light, and a low kitten heel means I can actually walk to the meeting.

 

My favorites on this page are the ones with a little personality. Stuart Weitzman's navy suede pair goes with everything from jeans to a black slip, and the Margaux cap-toe in cream and tan is the one I would wear with a white shirt and trousers. Vince and Sam Edelman make the classic black leather kitten heels, and rag & bone's cream version looks great with bare legs in summer. When you want some drama, Tory Burch and STAUD add buckles and snake print. Check that the strap stays put when you walk before you commit.
