Toccin Dresses and Knitwear

Toccin is a New York label founded by the husband and wife duo Alex and Michael Toccin, who began in fashion with the styling blog Stylists to a T, and its first collection launched in September 2019. They saw a gap for dresses women could wear from meetings to evenings, and the brand has stayed polished yet practical. This edit gathers the Zivana, Alessia and Flora dresses, cashmere and wool cardigans, Veronica blouses, Gaia trousers, sequined skirts and the Alyssa bomber.

Dresses from meetings to evening

Toccin is pronounced toss in, and it began with a blog. Alex and Michael Toccin, a husband and wife duo, started in fashion with the styling blog Stylists to a T, and the label grew out of that platform. What they noticed was a gap for dresses that a woman could wear from a meeting to an evening out. The first collection launched in September 2019, and I think the idea still holds together best in the dresses. Day to night is easy to see in the Valerie long sleeve collared button front dress and the Anika long sleeve shirt dress, and the wool Alessia midi dress and the Dasha half zip mock neck midi dress sit in the same practical lane. The evening side shows up in the Loretta lace midi dress, the Alina striped halterneck column gown and the Esther fringe maxi dress. The Zivana faux leather boat neck dress, Dash plunging ruched bodycon mini and Orielle polka dot drop waist maxi add some drama. For a nearby dress code, my guide to semi-formal wedding guest dresses is a useful read.

Cardigans, sweaters and polished tops

The Toccin team expanded from dresses and jackets into trousers, skirts, blouses and knitwear, and this group shows how well that worked. The cashmere Mariah cardigan, the Indira wool cropped cardigan sweater, the Elise crewneck cable knit cardigan and the zip front Holly cardigan are the easy layers. The Elsie wool and cashmere sweaters are the more classic choices, and the Sia colorblock V neck sweater is the playful one. For the office, the Veronica pussybow blouse, the chiffon tie neck blouse and the Nic cropped tuxedo shirt are good picks. The Ilya bateau neck vegan leather vest, the Deia layered cape top, the Avery racer tank, the Zuri sequined V neck top and the Zadie embellished cropped shirt bring the evening in. If you are choosing for a meeting, this story on blouses and shirts for work helps.

Skirts, trousers and a shirtdress

This group is where the brand shows its range. The Gaia wide leg trousers and the Solara pleated wide leg trousers are the smooth workday pieces, and the Toni lace trim blouse with Priya lace inset flare pants is a matched set. The skirts are plenty: the Leia plaid wrap maxi, Marielle sequined floral lace maxi, Dawson sequined sarong mini, Beatrice croc embossed vegan leather wrap skirt, Soren fringed faux leather mini, Giana asymmetric fringe midi and the chiffon leopard pleated Dillon midi skirt. What I would skip is wearing a sequined skirt to a daytime meeting with another shiny top, since the combination is too much light. A wool sweater from the group above grounds it. The Jean linen blend belted A line midi shirtdress is the practical answer, and a guide on fall skirts has some more shapes.

A wrap coat, a bomber and two more

The smallest group is a good one. The Rya exaggerated cape wool blend wrap coat is the dramatic outerwear, and the funnel neck Alyssa bomber jacket is the casual counterpart. Toccin began with dresses and jackets, so it makes sense that the outerwear feels as considered as the dresses. A wrap coat with a cape shape needs only a slim dress or straight trousers underneath, and the bomber works best with a skirt that has some movement. The linen blend Amra waistcoat and the Serena zebra rolled sleeve shirtdress sit beside them for more variety. In our fashion dreams she crosses a Manhattan avenue in the Rya coat over a dress from the first group. For a casual option, the Alyssa is a good one to read about in this bomber jacket guide.

How I would wear it

My Toccin week would be one midi dress, one cardigan, wide leg trousers and the Veronica blouse, with evening pieces swapped in when needed. Toccin also sells through private shopping events as well as department stores, and for me that fits a label that grew from a blog and stayed close to its customer. Keep the pieces polished and practical, and let a wool coat finish the day.
