Utility Softened

Utility Softened

Cargo pants and utility pieces reworked in softer fabrics and cleaner cuts. It is for anyone who wants practical pockets that still look polished.

Cargo pants used to mean stiff canvas and a lot of pockets, and I love how much softer they have become. The newer versions use satin, taffeta, corduroy and brushed twill, so the utility details stay but the look turns polished. I wear them the way I would wear trousers, with a fitted knit on top and a flat or a small heel.

The Donni taffeta pants in brown and gray have a rustle I really like, and Pistola's corduroy pair in camel is the one I'd choose for fall. Splits59's Nico is as comfortable as sweatpants, and L'AGENCE's Greer balloon jogger looks sharper than it sounds with a tucked-in tee. For a bit of a story, the Sanctuary camo cargo is a good way to try the print, and Helmut Lang's soft black pair is the safe place to begin.
