Why Wide Leg Trousers Are Back Again
Wide leg is the silhouette I keep seeing, and the reason is simple: it makes almost everything worn on top look better. The volume sits below the waist, so a plain knit or a fitted shirt suddenly has proportion. Below, three cuts I would buy now, from Missoni's fluid lame through FRAME's palazzo and A.P.C.'s straight denim. The trick is length. Wide only works when it clears the floor by very little.
Wide-Leg Trousers
Full volume, fluid fabric, worn long. FRAME's palazzo and Oscar de la Renta's argyle silk twill are the two that make the strongest case for the shape.
Tailored Straight
For when wide feels like too much. Joseph's Coleman wool and Victoria Beckham's pleated grey are cut straight and sharp, which reads more office than statement.
Denim, Loosely Cut
Loose denim has replaced the skinny entirely. A.P.C.'s Sally, Isabel Marant's Brinley and Suzie Kondi's Jordi all sit generously without turning shapeless.

Editor's Note
Get them hemmed. A wide leg trouser that is even slightly too long stops looking relaxed and starts looking borrowed.
